There should be a little hole there where you can slide a very small screwdriver into and then the key should fit in to the barrel and release the barrel, if this does not work consult your local dealer, they should be able to point you in the right direction

Key wont turn in ignition

Often this is caused by steering wheel interlock. Try turning wheel a little back and forth while trying to turn key to see if key now turns. Some cars require stepping ******* brake pedal and if the switch at the pedal has failed or become dislodged this can happen.

My key wont go in all the way

There are a few things that you can try. First, did you try a different ignition key? Keys are made of soft brass and will wear out over time and can cause problems. If that is not the case, then are the wheels turned haed to the left or right? This can put strain on the steering wheel, causing the column to torque slightly. This in turn can keep the ignition cylinder from working properly. Try taking the pressure off the column by pulling the steering wheel slightly when inserting the key. If that doesn't work, you most likely have something broken in the ignition key cylinder itself and it will need replacement. That requires removal of the steering wheel and brings you in contact with the airbag assembly. This is something that should not be attempted by anyone not trained for this type of work as it can be dangerous working around airbags.

Key wont turn in ignition. Dont want to hear the key is bent. Tried everything to get it to turn, but wont. It happened earlier today and after 20 minutes of giggling the key it finally turned over. ...

The problem can only be one of three things. Steering column, ignition or key. When there is tension on the steering wheel it will prevent the key from turning. If the linkage in your ignition is bad it will prevent it from turning. If your key looks worn or marred (it doesn't always have to be bent) it wont turn.

Key wont turn in ignition, steering column not locked?

You said the steering column is not locked, so I assume you have tried turning the steering wheel from side to side while you try to turn the key. Have you tried pulling the key out very slightly, or pushing it in harder?

How do i get the ignition switch off my 1997 vw golf i took off the safety boly steering wheel and all plug conectors just left with shaft and spring

This is a how-to from VWVortex.com

You WILL need the following,
10MM wrench
13MM wrench and socket or another wrench.
a eyeglasses phillips head screwdriver. (very small)
a regular size phillips head screwdriver
new ignition switch
vice grips (may not need them)
Instructions.
1. lock the steering wheel, and make note where it was just incase.
2. disconnect the battery with 10mm wrench.
3. remove the plastic around/behind the steering wheel by the two screws underneath using a phillips head screw driver.
4. now go under the dash, and remove the plastic peices covering up the steering wheel axel. and unscrew the bolt using a 13MM wrench&socket. Its a "U" joint.
5. Unplug everything behind the wheel including the ignition and the airbag.
6. using a vice grip, or your fingers if it is loose, to unscrew a gold bolt on the left side of the steering wheel column, its right behind the steering wheel on left underside.
7. Gently pull out the steering wheel, and the whole thing, including the axel, and steering wheel will comeout, be careful the end of it is greasy.
8. now with a small screwdriver (phillips), eyeglasses size is what i used, remove the screw where the ignition switch is, its a pretty long screw so it may take some time and it the switch wont come out until its fully unscrewed.
9. replace everything opposite of how it was took out.
Note- when your putting the steering wheel axel back, be sure to put back the large spring and align the axel correctly.

HI not a quick one this so please read,Disconnect the battery !!
first you have to remove the shear head bolt or whats left of it holding the clamp on the top steering column, when you have done this(not easy!) you then need to pull the old column assembly up towards you carefully with the key in the ignition to release the steering lock, disconnect the ignition barrel wiring plug, when you have the column assembly off turn the key back to off(0)if you look up the back of the switch you will see a little posidrive screw undo this and the switch will come out, fit the new switch and replace the screw, turn the ignition key back to 1 and carefully refit the column assembly . If you do not have a new shear head bolt you can use a standard M8x1.25 bolt to re-secure the clamp, make sure it is tight !,and reassemble

Car wont start when i turn the key

The first thing you need to check is whether the key has a pellet in it or "chip". If it does...the problem is most likely your key lock cylinder. Go buy a new key lock cylinder....KEEP YOUR OLD KEY. Take your new lock cylinder down to any Chevrolet dealer to find out what the VATS number is for your key....then have the dealer cut you a new key with that same VATS number...then go to your vehicle and remove the negative battery cable...this does two things...1. It resets the computer after a five minute period of no power...2.. allows you to work on the steering column without power on it.

Remove the steering wheel with the aid of repair manual.

Put the new key lock cylinder with the wire running down the steering column. Then put the steering column back together....Hook up the negative battery cable, then use your new key that was CUT and your car should start
