If you do not have a scan tool.

All you need to do is to remove the battery connectors for about 5 minutes; connect them back and you have the service light go off temporarily.

All the same I will recommend you take the car for a scan to know what possibly is bringing the service light on.

Good luck and thanks for using fixya.

Battery is charged. Why doesn't remote start work?

Do you have a check engine light on? If so, you will need to get that cleared, or any service light will disable your remote start feature.

1998 Chrysler Town Country 3.8L Does it Have Timing Belt Or Chain

your engine does have a timing chain, these are very durable, there is no set maintenence interval for them. you can tell how much chain slack you have by gabbing your crankshaft pulley with both hands and rotating it back and forth to feel the chain tightening, it should be a minimul amount of rotation. you should get well over 200k mi. of service without worry. i hope this answers your questions, or at least sets your mind at ease.

Engine issues

You would have to repeat the problem with the scanner hooked up and someone who knows what he's doing watching it. If the check engine light came on then a code will be stored.

Service engine soon light

The MIL light AKA service engine soon light comes on to warn of a malfunction in the emission control system or a problem with electronic engine controls like fuel control, there will be one or more trouble codes stored in the PCM (powertrain control module) to show what system or sensor has an issue/problem, take the car to any Kragen Auto, Auto Zone or other chain parts store and they will test it for free, write down the trouble code or code's and post them back on this same thread for me to look at, then we will have some info on what to fix to get the light to go out, also have them reset the light when they test it, it will come back on in a few days, but maybe we can fix it before then, OK?
