REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
(see Figures)The following is a general procedure for all trucks covered in this information, and may vary slightly depending on model and series.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable at the battery.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle.
  3. Disconnect and tag all wires at the solenoid terminal.
Reinstall all nuts as soon as they are removed, since the thread sizes are different.
  1. Remove the front bracket from the starter and the mounting bolts. On engines with a solenoid heat shield, remove the front bracket upper bolt and detach the bracket from the starter.

  1. Remove the front bracket bolt or nut. Lower the starter, front end first, then remove the unit from the truck.
To install:
  1. Position the starter and tighten all bolts as follows:

R/V Series:
Thru-bolts: 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm) Bracket bolt: 30 ft. lbs. (41 Nm) Nut (gas): 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm) Nut (diesel): 90 inch lbs. (10 Nm)
C/K Series:
Thru-bolts: 35 ft. lbs. (45 Nm) Bracket bolt (diesel): 24 ft. lbs. (33 Nm) Nut (diesel): 75 inch lbs. (8.5 Nm)
  1. Reconnect all wires.

if is the TBI 350 (5.7L), anything from about 1989 to 1995 should be alright, give or take a few sensors. i have owned an 89 suburban, a 90 suburban, and a 95 suburban, and the all have the same motor.

Chevy 350 flywheel


most starters are the same on chevy 350s should bolt right up, if you have to change torque converter, but most chevy 350 flywheels are universal. that's the good thing about a chevy most everything 350 smallblock bolts right up. hope this helps

If the shift indicator on the dash is marked PRNDD21 It is a TH700R4. If it is marked PRND21 it is a TH400

Take your vin number to a deaaler parts counter or parts store and they can tell you what 5.7/350 cid was used.

My 1989 350 suburban show the oil pressure maxed above 60 on the gauge. this occurred at the same time as a leak occurred in the intake manifold releasing a small amount of water into the oil. I have...


sometimes you can get a little water trapped. you can try removing the sending unit and cleaning it. you will probably have to replace the unit. the pressure is acceptable though as long as youre not pourong oil out through the seals.

assuming you have a 350 smallblock, its rated at about 250 or so. These numbers are for bragging rights only because there are several ways of rating hp.. What you have under the hood does not mean that you have that avaliable at the rear wheels! Being an older engine, you must account for internal wear as well.
As long as your engine is running well, dosen't smoke or overheat and gets you where you want to go, you are in far better shape than most people who post here!!!
