Disconnect the battery for about 30 sec. this will clear all codes from the ECM. reconnect battery. car should run fine. if it starts to do the same thing within about 50 miles, then youhave a bad throttle position sensor(TPS).

My car is sputtering and a spark plug came out

I have a 1990 Buick Century with 3.3 v6. My car would sputter and the check engine light would come on and off while driving and the car would die when I came to a stop and tried to take off. I noticed my cooling fan turning on and off even when the car was not up to temp, and that is when the check engine light would come on. I changed the temp sensor and all is well.

I have a 2000 Cougar. Engine light is on, car idles high, has a sporatic drive and has completely died on me one time while driving. Was put on the scope to find problems but the mechanic couldn't find...

Check all the vacuum hoses and see if they are broken or disconnected. Surge in power issues, idling issues, engine stall while driving, all are related to vacuum hoses. Give a try.

Engine revs erratically, rythmi.cally when in neutral

A car's engine can surge for many reasons. Generally the ignition, wires, spark plugs, or the distributor rotor and cap will cause this problem. Another possibility is that your fuel filter is clogged. Injectors could also possibly be clogged on a high mileage vehicle. This is where a tune up can help your car. A vacuum leak can also cause surging problems. First inspect all hoses and fittings then around the carb or throttle body. Run the engine and spray carb cleaner on areas that could be leaking, the engine will die or speed up when you spray if there is a leak. A vacuum leak may or may not make your check engine light come on. Surging could come from a sensor problem or a leak causing the sensor to not operate correctly. It is always good to check your computer codes first if the light is on. This will help you to identify the problem area. You can buy gas additive such as carb/fuel inectore cleaners to see if that helps.

97 plymouth voyager dies

This sounds like a fuel problem, I would check the IAS( Idle Air Speed) motor located on the throttle body , possibly a wire problem try wiggling them first to see if it changes the idle speed or stops the surging your referring too ! has a check engine light come on at ant time ?

check your tps sensor, or idle stop soleniod. they both control idle. Its not a major problem it wont effect your driving but may cause vehicle to die at a light.

Engine Surges and Lo trac light comes on then goes

1.Intake air vacuum leak. Check all hoses and bolts for tightness. With the engine running, wiggle all hoses around and listen for a hiss. 2. Change fuel filter, check fuel pressure. 3. Faulty idle control system/sensor.

While car is in drive at a stop, the rpm's drop and the car dies.

check the vacuum lines and also check to see if the fuel filter is good and put some STP gas treatment with injecter cleaner because you may have a problem with one of your injectors or the coil pack

Tail Lights

It sounds like you need to eliminate the problem, step by step. The first step, is to check the tail lights, to see if they are loose. Next step, check the wires leading from the tail lights, to see if they are bare & touching something. Next, check your fuses, to see if they are loose. Finally, if that doesn't help, go purchase new tail lights and replace them and see if that works.
