2000 KIA SPORTAGE - Anti-theft alarm goes off in wet weather

I have a 2000 Kia Sportage. Recently, the anti-theft alarm will sound when there is wet weather. Also, when this happens, the electric door lock won't work from inside, but will work when using the key. I think the problem is water infiltration on the driver's door. Any ideas on how to fix it? Thanks!

Do you have a keyless entry remote or fob? If so, I would replace the batteries with new ones first. It sounds like the switch for the door lock is grounding or shorting out possibly due to the moist air. Try removing the door panel and inspect the wiring for damage and inspect the switch/solenoid for damage or corrosion. If the solenoid is triggered by a short somewhere, the alarm may react to the false signal. If the wires look and feel well insulated, check them with a meter for continuity. That is where I would start.

SOURCE: cannot disable anti theft alarm driving neighbours mad

There should be a relay under the hood for the security system, if you can not find it, try jacking the front of the car up, it should have a sensor that tells it that it is being towed and should turn off, unless of course it has a bad wire that is grounding out.

SOURCE: Radio Anti-Theft turned on.

i had the same vehicle and my code was 8040. What really bothered me was this car was sooooo cheap, the stereo was cheap, the whole integrity of the car is cheap, however they have an anti theft on the stereo. ha ha lol! Don't spend any money trying to figure it out, either pick up a new stereo or give the car away!

Anti Theft Alarm

If you disable your alarm system because of embarrassment ( a poor excuse for too lazy to fix) imagine your inconvenience when someone steals the vehicle because you didn't hear it go . IT may be a simple thing such as resetting the CPU with a code reader or going to a good auto electrician or chevy service centre to have it fixed

Burnt ground wire on fuel pump

Burnt ground wire can be caused by loose ground fitting (not screwed in tight to the frame or body). Ground wire too small or ground wire connected to an anti-theft alarm system which use small wire, 10 gauge wire should be used on fuel pump ground.
If you have a lot of miles on your car, use a 5-40 synthetic oil, this will help oil comsumption.
