Insert a 1/4 inch by 4 inch long piece of tubing or nail in the small hole on the bottom side of the steering column (it is covered by a plastic plug). The tubing can be left in all the time to allow the key to be removed.

Hello. Your key may be worn out or your ignition switch, the hole you insert the key into may be worn out. Replace both at any reputable lock smith shop. Jjoe

Why does it start for just a split second, then die?

Sounds as if you are not really getting power to the "run" wires, but only to the "start wires". The smart move would have been to get a new key, instead of ruinning the switch.

My diamante is making a buzzing soung from the inside of the car

Has the car started since you changed the radio? Many manufacturers incorporate an anti-theft system that is tied to and through the radio (radios are frequently stolen rather than the entire car). Did you replace the radio with an OEM model or an aftermarket? If OEM, you may need an unlock code for the radio in order to start your car.

My car starts as soon as i hook the battery up without thekey in the ignition.I need to know why or what causes that.

Without the key in the ignition............ Now thats a new one. Several things have to be energized to start the engine. If the car starts and runs then the ignition switch under the steering column is stuck in start position. If you mean the starter cranks but the engine does not start then 2 things could be causing that. The starter relay in the fuse box under the hood is stuck on or the starter itself has the solenoid stuck in the start position and has to be replaced.

I only get a click when i turn thekey on my 89 mustang

Either you have a dirty cable connection (likely negative battery cable) or it is loose. Dirty connections will cause this. Also bad solenoids will cause this.

My lumina wont start. the key turns into the second position but wont advance to the starting position much like something is blocking it. what can i do?

If there are other keys on the key chain that holds the car key remove them. Now try starting the car. If that doesn't work wiggle the key and depress brake pedal, move shifter lever into neutral and try starting the car.
If the car starts take it right to a repair shop there are several things that could be wrong with it .(neutral safety switch, shifter release, shifter , ignition switch)
If car doesn't start have it towed there and stay away from ignition switch no need to force it to start youe gonna break thekey in the switch and ahve a bigger problem.

2002 GMC Envoy, i put the key in ignition and vehicle will not start sometimes and other times is starts fine. we have checked the starter, battery and battery connections, all fine. Changed the starter...

Ignition switch and neutral safety switch. Next time it happens wiggle thekeys in the ignition switch and try to restart. If it starts its probably the ignition switch. Then locate neutral safety switch on brake pedal and put meter on B+ wire from switch to starter relay and see if you get B+ on the would -be- crank. Next locate B+ wire from starter relay to starter hook a meter to it and see if you get B+ on the would -be crank.
Where ever B+ is missing is your problem.

I recently had a similar problem but mine would not come out of the ignition. I took it to the shop and they had to replace the steering column. This is was a costly part to put in.

2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette ran out of gas,now it won't start HELP

Put the gas in the tank, let everything settle, turn key off, then back on to on position, but NOT start. Let the fuel relay engage the pump and draw some gas pressure. Give it a good minute and it'll start right up.
