Why is speedometer sticking?

if the odometer does not stick, watch carefully , the 1/10s digit.
drive slow, no bumps when it sticks and watch ODOMeter
if odometer dont stick the needle side is, as all do this old.
for 90s cars, vast numbers stick and more every day
as owners hedge , gee $200 fix .or more.......
get a GPS speedo and use that, or glue on a cell phone holder
and use a free app, (GPS speed) to see speed.
there you go, all choices.
the cable has 2 ends.
head end if dead, the speedo and odometer stall.
the other end, has gear to trans tail shaft,
so it measures actually road wheel RPM and converts that to speed.
the cable can be broken on both end or the middle.
the bottom end can fail strip out or its gear go bad.
fixed them all, every which way but loose.
easy no? easypeasy-japaneezey
if the odometer freezes too, that means the cable end is bad.850403f4-cfb0-4822-8bea-bd0bef80f062.jpg

Speedometer is sticking and then jumping up every couple of mph

The speedometer in this truck is electronic, the needle is moved by a tiny electric motor called the speedometer needle stepper motor, a stepper motor is a DC motor than can hold one position rather than just rotate when power is applied to it. You will need to remove the instrument cluster from the truck and send it in to a Ford electronics repair center that repairs speedometers.

2003 yukon denali speedometer sticks , and stays there even when stop. You have to crank it several times to get it back to its proper place, before starts working again.

Hi, this is a common issue on this model, the speedometer operates off of a stepper motor , internal to the guage. this motor can bind, resulting in a needle that hangs up.The only true fix, is to replace the entire instrument cluster. This must be done at a dealer, as it has to be programmed upon replacement.Good luck...Coop

L1995Lexus LS400 speedometer does not work-

I have a similar problem with the speedo needle which sticks at 0 occasionally. To get it working I tap firmly on the front of the instrument panel and it pops right up. I don't know the cause but it isn't a major issue. Try it.
