Question about 2002 Audi A4

1 Answer

The stereo radio signal in my 02 Audi A4 keeps going in and out as if the antenna was disconnected. I pulled the stereo out and see that everything is plugged in. What could cause this? and the cd works perfectly fine.

Thank you for your response. I checked the connection fully. The A4 does not have an external antenna. I believe its integrated into the rear window defogger.

Check the connection at the antenna end of the cable and make certain antenna mast is properly grounded and at full extension.

Check to be sure the antenna is firmly plugged into the back of the stereo head unit. You need to pull pull out the head unit, then look for the largest black cable running into the back of the unit- that's the antenna. Be sure it's securely attached.

You can fix it yourself. The stealership wants 1500 for diagnostics and replacement. The harness is about $200 at VW. The cabs have a design defect that Audi will not acknowledge nor repair. Here is how you fix it yourself. You need to open the trunk and look at the rubber wire protector on the left side between the trunk and the lid. See picture posted. You don't have to remove any liners. Pull the rubber out of the top and very gently pull it down as far as you can exposing the antenna wires. Remove the black soft wrap

Audi a4 cabriolet 2004 car the cd players works fine but not the radio. I took the plug of at the back of the unit and found out: 1.if you put just the centre wire of the antenna radio cable in to the unit...

you have what is called a short in the antenna. mosy likely you will need to replace the antenna and reroute it.
Someone may have - just speculation but they may have had the dash out to replace say a heater core and then they routed the antenna wire and shorted it out.
You might be better off just taking it to a stereo shop and paying 10 bucks for their opinion.
Take the radio out to where the tech can get to it and let him look it over - then put it back your self. A Humble request and a 10.00 tip can go a long way here.

print this out and show the tech - he might give his eyes on advice free.
Best of it

You may have the clock and radio power leads reversed. Clock needs to be on a line that is hot with key on or goes to a lead that is only hot with key on.Same goes for lead for power antenna...don't need power there unless car is on. Don't forget...I'm not there so I can only make an educated guess.
Good Luck

There are 3 ways to solve this.
1) call Audi USA and provide them with info on your car and request the code number.
2) If you know someone that knows how to open up the stereo radio system. The code is labeled on the inside.
3) this is a last resort option, the option I had to go through. You can take it to a certified Audi dealership and have them go into the radio system and get the code. However I had to pay $145.00 for this service.
Just know that everytime you disconnect the battery in the engine this is gonna happen so be sure to save your code or provide it to to Audi USA for records.

After reviewing the feedback on these postings I identified the problem them took it to my local car stereo shop. I showed them how by raising and lowering the trunk the signal went in and out. They fixed it for $60 by splicing in some new coax cable. It works great.

2000 Audi A4 stereo system

Yes. I know of two units out there: Denison's IceLink, and the Phatnoise box (or Phatbox, as some call it). I believe both install the same way. You figure out where you want the iPod connector (say, glovebox). Pull the stereo out of the dash, disconnect the CD changer (you'll lose the changer function with these but who cares?), and plug the adapter cable into the changer's port. It'll allow the iPod to play through the factory stereo, and will allow you to control the iPod with the buttons on the factory stereo.
