The first thing that you should do is to make sure that the battery is fully charged, and then try and turn the crankshaft to be sure that the engine flywheel is not caught up on the starter drive gear, and engine is not seized up.

Make sure that the battery posts and the battery cable terminals are clean, dry, and tight. Even if the battery connections look clean, you should actually remove the battery terminals and make sure that the terminals where they connect to the battery and the battery posts themselves are clean, dry, and they should be shiny where they connect, and they should not be dull or oxidized, if they are then clean them up with a wire brush or you can buy a special battery cleaning brush from any auto parts store. Make sure that the battery cables are not heavily corroded under the wire insulation.

Make sure there are no loose battery cable connections at the starter, and that the battery ground cable is good and tight where ever it is connected to on the engine.

If all of the above checks out alright and the battery is fully charged, then you should replace the starter.

The battery cables especially the Pos (+) battery cable could be corroded inside the wire insulation from the terminal connectors back, and also does the vehicle have an aftermarket alarm with a starter interupt?

Also if you could check the voltage output of the starter field wire connected to the "S" terminal on the starter solenoid. It should be at full battery voltage when the key is in the start position. If it does not have full battery voltage then faulty contacts inside the ignition switch is most likely the culprit.

Chrysler van won't go forward or revers

Im having the same problem as you. First thing is, If it was a valve popping it would make the noise when started not only when in reverse. Secondly, the vehicle is starting so its not the battery, if it were clicking from the battery it would mean the van wouldnt start and it would be clicking when it tries to turn over.

2003 Chrysler Town & Country, put in new alternator, now have 2 lights on including battery and one looking like a pump. Radio won't work.

Hello
The reason the battery light is on is that the charging system voltage is below the battery voltage, this means the charging system is not working correctly, since you already replaced the Alternator for I assume the same problem, unless you got a defective rebuilt (which is poss if bought from Autozone or one of the other discount parts stores) the charging system problem is not the Alternator but lies elsewhere in the electrical system. Use a volt meter and check the voltage at the battery cables with the engine running at high idle (at least 1000 RPM) the voltage should be at least 13.4 to about 14.2 Volts DC. This is also most likely the cause of the light that is on that you say looks like a pump due to the low charging system voltage. As to the radio it is in theft lock, this happens anytime the battery is disconnected, you will need to enter the unique security code for your radio, if you are not the original owner this may be a problem, as the little card with the code and the instructions to enter it often gets misplaced. You will likely end up at the dealer who can access the Chrysler factory computer and retrieve the code, there may be a charge for this.

I have a 2002 Chrysler town and country. I just put in a new battery 3 weeks ago and they checked the alternator and said it was fine. Now it won't start. When you turn the key the radio and lights...

I hate to say this to you but make sure the engine is not locked up. If you can turn the engine, either by pulling on the belt, or by putting a wrench on the crankshaft bolt, try another starter. If you can't turn it, try another engine. (sorry for the insensitive attempt at humor)

When van is started,it clicks after2-6 times it will start

After it clicks 2-6 times and then starts, does it crank really slowly or fast? If it is cranking slowly, it sounds like you're battery is weak and should be replaced. If it is cranking fast, then your starter is going bad and should be replaced.

Van won't start. Just makes a clikcing noise. Horn sounds weak.

THIS IS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE STARTER MOTOR SOLENOID, REMOVE AND REPLACE THE STARTER OR JUST REPLACE THE SOLENOID ON TOP OF THE STARTER IF YOU CAN BUY IT SEPERATE.
