my 2001 echo does the same thing. 37000 miles on it and i just bought the car. My mechanic changed the oil pressure switch; didnt work. Took it to toyota service to diagnose; they said it was the oil pump and for 1600 they would fix it. My mechanic did it for 400 but it still didn't fix the problem. No seems to know what the problem is. The oil pressure seems to be fine at higher revs but it drops to 4 psi when idle which i guess is why the light flickers. My mechanic still has the car trying to figure out the problem. Ive only had the car for less than a month and drove it less than a week. :( idk

Sorry to say the oil light may be for low oil pressure, not necessarily low oil level. If the oil pressure is low, you are wearing out the bearings and engine parts at a very fast pace.

Your motor is getting Tired or your Oil Pump is going bad.

Dodge has a problem with their motors and their Oil Passages get GUNKED really bad. This is what you should do,...

A. Get 1.5 Quarts of Diesel Fuel and drive to where you have your Oil changed

B. Add the Diesel Fuel to the Oil and let it IDLE (don't Drive the car under operating conditions). Let it Idle for 15-20 minutes and then have your Oil Changed

C. Have them use 20W-50 Oil, this is going to raise your oil Pressure and the light will not come on anymore.

Reason... Metal parts are wearing and that is oil gets into the system to lube the bearings. Pump Screen may be clogged and this will dissolve the Carbon Build up.

Good :Luck

Oil light comes on when car idles

The light means the oil pressure has dropped below 10psi.
You could replace the oil pressure switch and see if the light stays off, or have the pressure checked with a mechanical gauge.
Make sure the engine oil level is full.

I was driving on the interstate when my oil light started going on and off intermittantly. I stopped to check fluid level and it was fine. No leaks under car. Started driving again and light came on...

Your oil pump is loosing power, this light is going on when you have driven for long periods or in high temperature, the hot oil looses viscosity and gets thinner, try changing the oil with a high mile one (cars/trucks with more than 100,000mi) or add an oil pressure restorer treatment, this will do the job for a while but your truck "has warned you already" it will need a new oil pump soon. Good luck

2007 mitsubishi eclipse oil light flickers at stop

Sounds like a problem with a weak sensor and the computer. You need to get your mechanic to code the car as to rule out any problems with the computer or the sensors. Your car is about the right year for those sensors to start getting weak. When the computer reads those sensors that then sets things. So if the sensor is getting weak, it would not be reading things right so your car would be not running so good. I would be looking at the Throttle Position Sensor. If after coding the car and nothing show up there. I would be checking for a vacuum leak they will often cause this problem. And one more thing when is the last time you did a good tune up on the car? Stark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor? Air filter might be something to look into too. I hope this helps and good luck!
