Question about 2000 Dodge Caravan
There is a rattle in the upper intake manifold on my 2000 dodge caravan 3.0L. When i start my car it rattles alot, especially at idle, and then off and on throughout the day. It seems to not really make noise while reving the engine, or it actually goes so fast and much quieter so that it blends in with the sound of reving it. When i put my hand on top of the manifold i can almost feel it in there rattling away. I used a 2 ft. extension to press against my ear like a stethescope and checked all over the engine to see if the sound might be traveling to the manifold from somewhere else. No thing coming from either valve covers or the engine block itself, there nothing coming from the intake plenum/er whatever that is that connects to the block, and also what the upper manifold sits on. Basically nothing from anywhere but the very top plate of the manifold. Its not a pinging sound either, its more like there is a solid chunk of metal in there flapping around violently in it. Also the sound is sparatic, it has no recurring rythym to it at all.
I don't want to deviate from what you described but are you sure its not comming from the catalytic converter. sometimes the plate get loose and rattles
