You need to extract any code(s) that had tripped the tranny computer. Here, you can find what is actually going on with the transmission. The blinking OD lamp is telling you something is wrong with the transmission.

Hope this helped.

I don't know which it is

Your info is limited but when you say the "alternator" tries to turn I can only assume the engine is cranking. If it is and not starting check the security light on the instrument cluster.. If its blinking put the key to acc and leave it for 10 min or until the light stops blinking. Turn the key off then start it. This is a common passlock issue.

Oil light blinking in 98 cabrio but oil fine and will not start

Check the oil pump. It may no longer be working and your car may have a safety feature on it to prevent the car from starting.

The large arrow warning light is blinking ( in drive position) Came on while I was driving

Lots of people experience this problem and google provides several links to answers to it, but here is my take on it. The contacts in the gear selector mechanism can trigger this fault code. Put the key in the ignition, foot on the brake pedal, without starting the car, move the gear selector from P to L 10 or so times. This will clean the contacts. Turn key off. Start the car. On my S40, I have to drive it about 10 miles before the arrow light goes out. If it doesn't, do the procedure again to clean the contacts. It sounds crazy, but the process actually works.

My engine light is on, the brake light comes on and the speedometer stops when that happens, my key is stuck in the ignition, and the blinking arrow won't stop blinking. I am a first time volvo owner. I...

Brake light comes on auto each time you start the car (saftey check) and will go off when you press brake pedal.

Blinking arrow will stop when you click seat belt together (driver)

turn ign off press key in towards drive stem and turn anti clock (5degs)and pull out

Put in key hold in mileage reset button and turn key to on (dont start the car )the last click before starting (and keep finger on miles reset button till flashing stops
then turn off ,this resets all service lights,

Light came on after an hour and a half drive. Not

If the light was flashing when it came on, then it means your engine is misfiring.

A solid light can mean anything. (bad gas cap to a bad transmission)

This light comes on when the computer detects a fault of some sort in its diagnostic tests. If it keeps detecting this issue, the light will remain on. If the light turns off, then it has detected that the issue may no longer be present.

In order to find out what the exact reason was for your light, You need to have your car computer scanned to retrieve the code that the computer would have stored when the light triggered. Most garages will do this free of charge. The code will tell you what may have caused the light to initially go

Car not starting, due to airbags blinking?

I had the same problem.air bag light blinking. Although the power window, radio, light, A/C,etc was working, I could not get it to start. I found out the charge indicator light was not coming on when key is turn to the on position. Cut a short story even shorter, The alternator died. Check your alternator, therefore not charging battery.. But first check your battery(all other features can still work with weak battery) Car can't start because not enough power in battery to turn over. That was my problem. Probably the same for you.

Blinking light means there is a trouble code. There is a procedure to manually pull codes from the computer.Have the codes checked, have them written down.It could be just shift solenoids,or could even be something more serious, but thats the starting point.
