Question about 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Lost all gears while driving at approx 30mph, no engine codes or indication of a bad trans, oil pump still works, car starts no problem? very confused

Is the car automatic or manual. I'm assuming its automatic. Do you still have the same problem after turning the car off and restarting if so your transmission is probably fryed

    your transmission sounds like its fryed. This would have no effect on the engine starting or the oil pump producing pressure. the clutch pack is probably worn down or the valve body is clogged with debris

Transmision wont go into gear no drive indicator


Did you replace the lost transmission fluid and rechecked the oil level after starting. Secondly if the torque converter moved forward without you knowing it, the converter may not be properly connected to the front pump and it won't be working Lastly ensure that all electrical wiring connectors are properly connected and not loose.

First use KISS method (Keep It Simple Stupid) check and clean battery and chasis and engine grounds. Loss or poor grounds can make the onboard computer send false code's sending you on a false goose chase. clear codes and go through a drive cycle. Let care set for a few hours batt disconected. Reconect battery start car with foot on brake put in drive and set for one minute, put in reverse and set one minute drive down road slow at first about 30mph let the trans shift into all gears by gradually increasing speed ( I am assuming it has an automatic trans) this is forcing the computer to go through A relearn procedure. recheck for codes.

You have a C6 transmission, your sincros are bad you need to have the trans rebuilt... No way getting aroungd it. I use to work for Chrysler and Dodge as a tech.

I put in a used transmission into my 2000 gmc sierra 1500 4x4 why wont it shift into any gear and the shift indicator doesnt work now?


Hi there,

I would firstly suspect a problem with the Park/Neutral Position Switch, as this switch is connected directly to your dash gear indicator.

1st test: attempt to START the engine in each of the following gears: P, R, N, D, 3, 2, 1 (or L, C etc).

1) Engine should start in P & N ONLY
2) Engine should NOT start in other gears

- If engine does not start in any gear, then ensure switch is connected properly.
- If engine starts in both P & N ONLY, then switch is working OK.
- If engine starts in P, but not in N....then switch requires correct alignment on the transmission.

Should this still not resolve the problem, then you will need to have your local dealership access your vehicle's on-board diagnostics/trouble codes - this will immediately identify where the the fault lies (as all transmission electronics are monitored by the OBDII system).

My car do not want to pull


You have nothing in any gear? The engine runs but the car won't go forward or backward? Did you check the transmission fluid? You have to do this with the engine idling in "park", the dipstick for the trans is located near the rear of the engine compartment, it has a yellow handle. The fluid should be in the crosshatch area of the dipstick, if it's low you have to add "Mercon V" ( Mercon 5 ) fluid. If it's overfull and you have the engine running there is an internal problem. Those car have a problem with the oil pump drive shearing the splines inside the torque converter. When this happens the oil pump in the trans quits turning and with no oil pressure in the trans, it will not work. There's a good chance all you need is a new torque converter the bad news is the trans has to come out of the car to replace it. DO NOT TOW the car with the front wheels on the ground, no more than a couple blocks, you will ruin the transmission in no time.

I don't see you did anything wrong per your description.
With the engine off, check the level of the transmission oil, replace the dipstick, start the truck and recheck the fluid level, level should drop. This will indicate the front pump is working.

Next, with truck running, put transmission into any gear, then return to park position. Do you hear any ratcheting noise.

Hello, You could have a stopped up fuel filter or a bad fuel pump or bad gas etc. If you overfilled the trans, that would explain the oil loss. It will also aerate the trans oil and make the trans not work properly. You didn't mention what vacuum hose was broken. This could also cause the engine to not run properly. You need to check the fuel pressure and supply and go from there. Make sure that the trans fluid is 10mm below the mark on dipstick when cold and on the mark when warm.
If fuel pressure and supply is correct you need to check the exhaust system for restriction.

Rebuilt transmission 92 explorer wont pump fluid or go into gear


the only way the oil wont go down the tube is blocked unlikely the breather is blocked if u are using a funnel lift it away from the tube to allow air out [ DONT START ENGINE UNLESS U HAVE AT LEAST 5 LITRES OF OIL OR U WILL CAUSE DAMAGE ]
