Question about 1995 Chevrolet K1500

1 Answer

I have a 95 Chevy Silverado that boggs down when I'm trying to get up to 70 on the e-way ramp or when I'm at cruising speed and start going up a hill. Only does at those speeds. Even with cruise set.

If you have a check engine light then have your local autoparts store do a diagnostics scan. This is a popular vehicle and will probably have parts in stock. There are many parts failures that could cause an issue like this(oxygen sensor, air filter, fuel filter, evap system, ect.) so it is very difficult to determine what it is without seeing the vehicle and doing some tests(cylinder compression check, diagnostic trouble codes, fuel pressure, ect.) If you have no check engine light, make sure the dash bulb works and if it does the problem is probably in your fuel delivery system(fuel filter). Take it to a mechanic and get him to do a road test and diagnostics. It will be worth your money.

When cruse is set, why does it not hold going down hill

Cruise control only maintains speed by utilizing the accelerator. To speed up it increases it and during slowing is removes it. The cruise control will not apply brakes in the event of a steep downhill run. In this case the vehicle will start to accelerate in the same manner as if the cruise control was not engaged. But in theses cases, most cruise controls, once the speed exceeds a certain amount above the set speed, will auto-disengage as a safety feature.

Cruise control on 1996 Chevy Silverado won't hold speed

Possibly a broken wire in the steering column. Wires goint through the steering column for the cruise are so fragile when the tilt is used alot causing the wires to brake. Part is $70.00 through advance auto. Cheapest I've found if you order online.

03 chevy z71 cruise contol problem

There are a few things you can try. First, check your
brake lights, if they do not work the problem may be
in the stoplight sw circuit. Also there are 3 fuses you
can check, 1 is a 25amp in the fuse block under the
hood the next 2 are in the fuse block under the dash.
One is the 15amp stoplight fuse and the other is a
10amp turn sig fuse. These fuses are either directly
or indirectly related to the cruise ctrl. Next check the
cruise switchs accel/coast set/resume if either sw.
was sticking in any posistion for 90 seconds or more,
the cruise ctrl. will shut down. There are trouble codes that will set but they won't trip the check engine light. You'll need an obdII scanner to recover
them from the memory. If you don't have one, go to
autozone/napa or advance auto parts they will scan it
free. The codes of interest are po571 stoplight switch
po567 and po568 the cruise ctrl switch's. And any
other codes related to the torque converter clutch -
the speed sensor - throttle actuator control.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

It plunges down to zero at times then reads eratic

Your oil becomes too fluid as the engine gets warmer. When the engine rotates slower at stops, the oil pump won't make pressure. At speeds, more oil is pumped and the pressure rises.
Have you recently changed your oil? Or maybe is too old. The real problem would be if you read zero at normal cruising revolutions.

Speedometer reading fluctuates

IMHO, I think that the broken cable is what is causing the problems. It "confuses" the programing of the CPU or computer.
