Question about 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

How to remove 5 speed manual transmission from a 2000 chevy 3500 4X4, do i have to remove the transfercase seperate? if i try to take it out in one unit i have no room to slide the tranny and transfercase back to take the clutch out, the torsion bar cross member is in the way and cant be taken out

    thanks for the info, the haynes manual i have doesnt tell me nothing lol, i love how the chiltons manual leaves things out and vise versa with the haynes, thanks again for your help and for your answer

You do have to take the transfer case off the main transmission housing before removing the transmission. This will make it more balanced to put on the jack also.

Im going down the highway going 70 and my chevy s10 just dies, and doesnt wanna start back up, its a 2.2 liter flex fuel 5 speed manual transmission, what could be the problem?


Can you smell fuel? if not bang on the gas tank and try again if that doesnt work you need to figure out if its not getting fuel or spark thats a starting point

Do you people even read before you answer! There is no park on a manual tranny! The axles do not go into side of transmission either. on this TRUCK aka C1500... This is a truck not a fwd automatic car.If you dont know then dont answer questions!Flat ground take top plug on side of tranny out and fill till it comes back out with 75w90 or 80w140(depending hot/cold climate)You will need a Special removal tool(huge allen wrench type for the drain and fill plugs on right/passenger side of tranny)

Remove the fluid - get a good flash light - get a very long screw driver - put the screw driver into the drain hole and force the transmission out of gear. Then remove the Transmission and replace or repair. Cheaper to replace. You bent the forks on the shift mechanism.

if the transmission is a manual there is no dip stick there is a plug on the top side of the gearbox which takes a large alan wrench remove plug stick finger in hole if you have fluid on your finger its full
