Question about 1999 Jeep Wrangler

2 Answers

The clutch slips in first gear when it is hot.

The clutch on my 1999 Jeep Wrangler V6 slips in first gear when it is hot, even if it just sat in the sun all day it will slip starting out in first gear. If it is cool outside it will work normally until it heats up after being driven for about 10 miles.
I had to replace the clutch about 2 years ago when the original clutch died after 115,000 miles. It worked fine for about 1 year before it started acting up.
Why does it do this and how do I fix it?
Thanks in advance for any help/advice.

The throw out bearing lubricant dries out or, a clutch plate spring is broken. replace the clutch: use an alignment tool to seat the clutch "straight" on the flywheel, you have a miss-aligned clutch because a shaft alignment tool was not used and, the throw out bearing was not properly lubricated when it was installed.

You need a new clutch again. Sorry to give ya the bad news. This time make sure they put a new transmission seal in so fluid can not leak onto the clutch plate and ruin it.

1995 jeep wrangler, when shifting gears, having trouble going into gears.grinding bad.what could it be...

If the transmission oil is full and the clutch master cylinder is full, feels normal and does not slip going up steep grades, likely the gears in the transmission are worn (usually synchros). All items above contribute to proper shift engagement.

1995 JEEP WRANGLER Automatic 4 cyl. gears starting to slip

ck the condition of the tranny fluid. If the fluid is very dark, it will need changing. Another problem with the jeep auto tranny is that if the fluid has not been changed in a long time, the clutch material will wear and clog the tranny filter inside the pan.If there is alot of clutch material in the pan and you change the fluid and filter, sometimes the tranny won't work because the clutches are worn out too much.

Cant shift into first gear or reverse

You are likely correct...sounds like the synchro is shot or the shift fork is somewhat worn. Is fluid full?
As long as the clutch does not slip and is engaging and disengaging somewhere in the center to just below center of travel, it's OK.
