Question about 1995 Oldsmobile 88

1 Answer

I have water leaking in my 1995 olds 88 royale that appears to be coming in at the top of the windshield by the rear view mirror. There is heavy moisture and water spots on the inside roof above the drivers side sunvisor as well. It also runs back to the drivers side back window. any suggestions? Also if I can fix the problem, how do I eliminate the mildew odor?

My brother had the same problem with his pontic grand am, only it was the front windshield but all he had to do is get the proper weatherstripping and put it in. It solved the problem of rain leaking into the front pass. floorboard. I dont know if that will solve your problem but its worth a shot right???? Goodluck

Hi I have a water leak behind the rear view mirror I don't have a sunroof

You'll have to pull the windshield trim and reseal the windshield. Put the trim in place and tape it down before the silicone drys.

How to replace a fallen off rear view mirror on a 95 buick regal

Hi,
I assume it is the type that is glued to the windshield (most GM are like that). You can buy a glue kit from the parts store for this. Fairly simple, the piece that glues to the windshield comes off the mirror unit, usually with a set screw. You use a razor blade to scrape off all traces of old glue from the windshield and the mounting piece (use a marker to out line where it should be re-attached, and I use fingernail polish remover to get rid of residue, then some windex)) then spread a thin layer of glue on the mounting piece and press to winshield for a minute or so, allow to dry. (instructions in kit will tell you exactly how long for the particular glue used.) Slide mirror unit into bracket and re-tighten set screw. Done!

How to glue 97 monte rear view mirrow back on windshield, no screw to get the little metal hanger off rest of mirror,

The only thing holding the bracket on is a screw. If the mirror were on the windshield, look up from under it, there will be a hole. Inside is a set screw, it requires a small allen wrench. Instructions come with the glue for attatching it. You can purchase the glue kit at any auto parts store. Before you clean the area, take a felt marker and mark a larger than the bracket " + " where the old one was on the outside of the windshield so you can center the bracket.

Seperate rearview mirror from plate both came off

Replacing the rear view mirror on a Ford Explorer is easy. The only obstacle you might encounter is fear of breaking the glued metal plate off the windshield. Do not sweat it. You can buy glues at the auto parts store to reattach the mirror to the windshield (Difficulty: Moderately Easy).

Instructions:
  1. Tap gently at the base of the mirror where it slides on over the metal plate glued to the windshield and pull upward. Some rear view mirrors have a small Allen screw that tightens the base of the rear view mirror to the metal plate. Disconnect the electrical plugs if your rear view mirror has them.
  2. Pull the rear view mirror clear of the metal plate. Clean around the metal plate glued to the windshield. If the metal plate has come off because of harsh weather or from hammering too hard at it, reattach it with glue designed for this job.
  3. Clean the area where you will be attaching the metal plate on the windshield. Apply the glue evenly on the surface of the metal plate that will go against the window. Be sure to clean and scrape off all the old glue before applying the new glue. Gently push the metal plate against the windshield in the spot you wanted it and hold tight for five minutes.
  4. Wait a day before putting the base of the mirror or replacement rear view mirror onto the metal plate. Do not force the base over the plate. Forcing it will likely dislodge it again. Press firmly until it will not slide along the grooves of the metal plate. Reconnect your electrical plugs and tighten the Allen screw if your new mirror has one. Adjust the mirror according to your safe viewing preference

Hope help with this (remember rated this help). Good luck.

How do you remove the spring clip on the rear view mirror?

Most rear view mirrors are secured on a pivot point to an arm and that arm is then secured on a pivot point to the base. The base is then attached to the windshield anchor either via a screw (metal housing) or it will have a lil tab (plastic housing) that you pull back and slide the entire assembly off of the windshield anchor
