Hi,

Because you cannot scrap rear windows which will damage the defrosters, you must make sure the film comes off in one piece instead of small strips.
The best way to insure this is to steam the film before pulling it off. Here's how to do it. Take a plastic trash bag, cut two sides so that it opens up into a large plastic sheet (no longer a bag). Cut the sheet to fit the size of the window. Spray the (soak) the inside of the rear window where the old film is, place the plastic sheet on the inside and set the rear window facing the Sun. The hotter it gets the better. Leave it in the sun for 15 minutes. and test pull a corner. If the film doesn't easily pull off, leave it in the sun awhile longer and keep trying.
Make sure that ALL the laminates come off in one piece. It's rare for the film to delaminate (that is one layer comes off leaving a thin layer still on the glass) this is trouble. You may have to resteam if this happens and hope it comes off. If you see this start to happen stop and bring it in to a professional.
Once the film is off spray the window well and scrub with steel wool DO NOT use a scraper blade over defrosters. Discard steel wools once it becomes gummy and use new until all the adhesive is off.
It sometimes helps to use pure amonia to cut the adhesive but, I suggest staying with the soap and water and a lot of scrubbing.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Original equipment rear auto glass is not designed to have the "heating element" removed...these lines are imbedded into the glass during production. If your current rear defogger is not working, you have a few options. You can replace the entire rear glass (very costly), you can add a new aftermarket defogger strip and connect to original equipment wiring...(maybe to many lines for your viewing...or you can add a rear blower motor vent to the rear shelf...(most effective, aftermarket kits are vailable, probably your best choice to address a need for a rear window defogger. Hope this helps.

How do I take the front window out of a junk yard 1992 cadillac sedan de ville ( no battery) without riping the tint?

I would worry about saving the glass from breakage. The tint will get scratched no matter how its removed. By the way most states ban tinted windows on the front doors of all vehicles. That is why the rear windows from the factory are tinted with the exception of Wisconsin. They ban tinted windows period

I scraped off the tint and the grids on the rear window ,there is any way I can fix it without getting a new window?

u can't reinstall the grids, there are kits to repair small breaks or damage but not the whole grid or large portions of it, u will need a new/used window, do a salvage yard search for a used on.

Side windows

It may seem easier to tint them out of the suv, but it is very easy to damage them putting them back in. pre-cut the tint material on the outside of the glass. Make sure you have the tint on the correct side when pre-cuting. leave a 1/32 gap around the tint edge when pre-cuting. That will keep the tint from binding up around the edges. Also the soapy water has a way to escape. Make sure the glass is as clean as possible.

Radio cuts out when rear window defogger is turned on(05' Altima)

I have the same problem in my 2003 Altima. I had a friend who works on cars check it out. I watched him and when he removed the panel under the steering wheel next to the driver's door you could hear a clicking noise. He said is sounds like my defogger relay/switch is bad. I located the part and it is not that expensive. I am going to purchase the part and have it put on. I will keep you posted to let you know if it solves my problem. If it does I will give you the name of the part so you can hopefully solve your issue.

Rear defogger

The switch is part of a timer module that controls the rear defogger grid on the glass, they fail and create the problem you described, replace the module.
