It is dirt trapped by the filter and yes it is normal, work for a Ford dealer see this all the time, would suggest you change gas stations or bring it to there attention that thier fuel is dirty. Make sure you change the filter at least every 30,000 miles, use a Motorcraft factory filter, they are by far the longest lasting and best at filtering.

My 04 f 350 6.0 is smokeing (black) more than it did before and i just changed the fuel filters to

Take this thing to a shop where they can run a diagnosis on it. You probably have a bad EGR valve and possibly a stopped up EGR cooler. These were common problems on these vehicles causing black sooty smoke and the check engine lamp to come on.

Ford Focus Deisel chokes on acceleration

Hi mate.

This sounds like a fuel problem.

Some one may have have filled up with petrol. If so you will have to drain the feul tank and change your feul filter.

If only diesel has been put into the tank then carry on as follows until you solve the problem.

Change your fuel filter and air cleaner for a start.

Check your timing.

If you still have the problem, then have your injectors cleaned and reset.

If the problem is still there then you will have to have the fuel pump reconditioned.

You can also check your leak off pipes between the injectors to see if they are in good condition.

I trust this will help you.

Changing fuel filter

From what your describing this sounds like you have a bad fuel pump and should be easy enough to verify.Install a fuel pressure gage on the fuel rail. Cycle key on and check for a minimum of 50 PSI. Start engine and verify fuel pressure maintains at least 50 PSI during symptom.

If pressure drops, lower fuel tank to check for B+ on the Pink/Black (PK/BK) and good ground on the Black (BK) while fuel pump relay is energized. If OK, replace faulty fuel pump.
Fuel pressure should run between 50-65 PSI. Fuel pumps are a common failure item on this vehicle especialy during warmer weather.

lower the tank to get to your filter

Diesel fuel injection fault light keeps coming on , loss of power black smoke from exhaust.

Black smoke usually means a fuel problem, try changing the fuel filter and get an injector cleaner from tesco's or asda they're about £3 to£5, if your gonna change your fuel filter you might as well change the oil and filter and the air filter at the same time
