Dome light & step board light wont turn off

patrick r le, Ford has put the door switch on the door latch itself. Usually when you open the door the dome & step board lights come on and turn off when you close the door. These switches will sometimes get dirt and oil in them which prevents them from operating correctly. Sometimes they just go bad. The problem is, these switches are not the easiest things to get at. You have to remove the door panel and then when you do get to the switch, it has to be turned about 90 degrees to remove them. All of this on the inside of the door. What you can try is to spray in and around the latch with something like WD40 and see if that frees up the switch if it is only stuck. If this does not work then the switch will have to be replaced. Good luck with this.

Why are the interior and running boards lights wont go out and door ajar light staying on in my 1998 Ford Expedition

the switch that controls the dome light on fords will often break and short to ground thru the door frame. check the switches on all of the doors (usually under a rubber boot on the front of the doors' frame) to see if they are loose (they will wiggle easy) or missing. you may need to replace it/them. also check the tail hatch (don't remember where the switch is for that)

Check under the hood on the driver's side...there should be a black box full of relays and breakers.

The dome light on my ford expedition stays on

Check owners manual on dome light operation - if that doesn't work, check for a bad door switch...take the switch out and Ohm across the contacts (if the switch reads zero Ohms with the switch depressed...then the switch is bad - should read infinite with the switch depressed).

2001 expedition 5.4l. wont crank

get a multimeter and test battery output, if more than 13v when you turn key to crank position if below then battery may be faulty and not holding charge, check starter relay and fuse, if ok also check for any parasitic draw from any accesary that might draw down battery when engine not running

Dashboard light comes on saying that one door is open but they are all closed even the trunk so dome lights wont come off

It could be that one door switch has fail or has become disconnected. Remove and inspect each door switch in turn the problem should be obvious when you find the faulty one. The door switches are normally mounted behind a small rubber dome in the door surround.
