I cannot comment on another garages price because of the overheads which can vary ,but i would ask a local mechanic if its possible to cut the metal pipe and put a piece of rubber hose in its place .I cannot say for definate if this is feasable because i have never seen one of these vehicles here in spain

ENGINE COOLANT LEAK FROM BACK OF ENGINE WHERE IS THE WATER PUMP LOCATED

Hopefully just a water hose or connection leak...some parts of these hoses are now metal, and rust away...these factory metal hoses are dealer, and salvage yard only...Many times you can replace the entire metal line with a rubber line...as long as you can connect to both sides...there is a water hose that runs under the coolant overflow, to the firewall...(many times the culprit)...the water pump on your motor is under a pulley located on the front of your engine...Hope this helps.

My 99 alero v6 is over heating not leaking ight mite be hoses or thermostat . or head gasket but when it overb heats the smoke comes from the top of the engine

REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP.IF CAR OVER HEATING WHILE IN MOTION.MORE LIKELY ITS THE THERMOSTAT,LOW COOLANT IN RADIATOR OR COOLANT SYSTEM,BAD WATER PUMP,WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE IS LEAKING, WATER PUMP NEEDS REPLACING.CHECK ENGINE OIL,IF OIL LOOKS LIKE MILK SHAKE YOU HAVE LEAKING HEAD GASKET.IF CAR IN PARK AND OVER HEATS WHILE IN A LONG TRAFFIC LINE OR.BANK DRIVE THROUGH COOLANT FAN NOT TURNING ON, BECAUSE THE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR FAULTY.CODE SCAN CAR FOR FAULTY COOLANT FAN RELAY OR FAULTY PCM. CHECK COOLANT FAN FUSE, AND HOT WIRE THE COOLANT FAN TO MAKE SURE ITS WORKING.IF COOLANT FAN DONT WORK WHEN HOT WIRED. COOLANT FAN NEEDS REPLACING. REPLACE BOTH RADIATOR HOSES, REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP.BUY NEW COOLANT ADD 50/50 WATER AND COOLANT.IF ENGINE OIL HAS ANTIFREEZE IN IT.REPLACE ENGINE OIL AND OIL FILTER TO KEEP FROM LOCKING UP THE ENGINE.GET CAR FIX.DONT KEEP DRIVING IF IT KEEP OVER HEATING,ENGINE DAMAGE WILL OCCUR.I HOPE INFORMATION I GAVE YOU WILL FIX PROBLEM.PROBLEM COULD BE LEAKING RADIATOR HOSES BUT CHANGE THERMOSTAT THATS FIRST THING I WOULD CHANGE BECAUSE IF IT CLOSED, ENGINE WILL OVER HEAT AND CRACK CYLINDER HEAD OR CRACK PISTON, COOLANT NEED TO CIRCULATE THROUGH THE ENGINE TO TAKE AWAY THE HEAT FROM ENGINE.

Metal hose on drivers side has a leak.

Well, what is it leaking? Is it coolant, or oil of some kind?
You need to check all your fluid levels: engine oil, transmission oil, brake oil, power steering oil, coolant (radiator AND surge tank), washer fluid reservoirs, to determine which system is affected. If you cannot pinpoint which system is affected by identifying the metal hose's purpose, you need to be careful you don't damage your engine or endanger yourself. It MIGHT be okay to keep "topping off" the fluid that is leaking, but this should only be a temporary fix; eventually, depending upon the metal hose's critical nature, the hose will HAVE to be replaced. There is no guarantee for "fixing" a hose without replacing it.

Your number one priority here should be: ensure safety. Don't do anthing that would make driving the vehicle risky or unsafe, to you or anyone else! (bad brakes?)
Number two priority should be: preserve the life of the automobile. Don't ruin your engine or it's components; if you nurture it a little, it will last you awhile.

Get a friend to help, if at all possible.

Hope this helps.

My 99 ford taurus is registering that it has low coolant on the dash board. its leaking a little under the passenger front side under the hood. i also smell somthing like burning, hot under the hood also

Could very well be coolant, depending on what color your using, orange, green whatever, but it should feel a little oily when you rub it between your fingers. Top up your bottle in the meantime, and have it checked, before it does worse, more expensive/extensive damage to your engine.

Strange Coolant leak

this most likely means that you have a leak in a hose somewhere between your engine and the radiator, when you open up the rad cap it lets the leak breath causing it to gush out, go to napa and buy a replacement radiator hose it shouldn't cost but a few dollars and that should fix your problem.

Coolant vapors coming through vents

Sounds to me like a leaking heater core, probably just started. Quite an extensive operation to replace. If you happen to be in a cold climate, the windows will undoubtedly fog up. Hope this helps
