I have antifreeze leaking into the cab through the floor heat vent

You need to replace your heater coil. That is the only place that Radiator fluid comes into the cabin area.

Weird burning smell maybe antifreeze coming from air vents, smoke from driver's side (under dash) after 30 minute drive

This is strongly indicative of either a failed cabin heater core or to the coolant lines servicing it, causing a leak. The smoke would therefore be steam. There is no other possible way for antifreeze to get into the vents.

If the smoke really is smoke though and the smell is burning plastic then disconnect the battery negative terminal and get an auto-electrician in to check the situation, as you're at risk of a fire.

To fix the heater is a really labour intensive and fiddly job as virtually the whole dash and crash pad has to come out. If it's an electrical issue then there may be a relatively simple fix, or if the heater blower motor needs replacement then it's almost as major as for replacing the heater core. If you're looking at a professional repair of that magnitude it will likely not make economic sense: depending on the climate they live in some owners just have the heater core permanently disconnected by fitting a bypass to the supply pipes under the hood.

The good news is that there is a Haynes manual for your model which will be of immense help if you wish to save hundreds of pounds/dollars via DIY and there is an active and very useful Saab Owners' Club.

Believe my heater coil went out. then i blew a head gasket, is this related. how often do the heater coils go out.. heard that fords heater coils go out.. needed to know if its worth my time to fix.

do you mean heater core if so it can be a chore to replace dash board and air housing disassembled you can buy a electric heater that will plug into lighter socket if the heater is leaking coolant the head gaskets can cause damage if motor over heats

plz leave me a comment

reply if you have any more questions

White smoke out of vents on dash board mostly the defroster, add antifreeze and its still happening

Sounds like there is a issue with your heater core. There is most likely a crack in the core causing the leak then it steams up the windows. You will need to replace the heater core in order to fix the matter. Please let me know if there are any additional information you need I would be more than happy to assist you in any way that I can. Thanks for using fixya and hope to hear from you.

Radiator/Heater Coil Issue on 2002 Chevrolet Blazer

It is very possible that your heater CORE is bad. You will smell a sweet odor of antifreeze inside your vehicle if it is leaking, and possibly feel for a wet spot on the floor boards. Need to replace heater core.

Hi I have a 96 eldorado and I have a leak problem. A few days ago when my girl friend was driving my car she called me up and said that the car was blowing smoke on the dash board. I took the car home and...

This sounds like the heater core radiator has a leak. After disconnnecting the negative battery terminal and draining the coolant, you will have to perform the following:
1) disconnect the heater core hoses.
2) remover right side sound insulator and glove box module.
3) Remove the programmer shield, if equipped and disconect the air mix valve link.
4) Detach the programmer vacuum and electrical connectors.
5) Remove the heater core cover, leaving the programmer attached.
6) Remove the heater core retaining screws and the heater core.
7) Take the heater core to a radiator shop for repair and re-install.

Heater core leak ??

Yes it is a heater core leak, here is how to change it.

Remove battery cables. you have to remove the upper dash pad on this paticular year model. with a 10 mm socket and a 1/2 inch extension remove the 5 retaining bolts. remove the blower assembly under the passenger side of dash. remove passenger side seat and center counsole. drain radiator. disconnect hoses from now exposed heater core. turn it 180 degrees and slide out. Replace in reverse order.

Heater Coil Leak

Hey mad40bx that will be your heater core,,just pick up a new one and grab a haynes or chilton manual for your truck if you are not familiar with the procedure its not that bad, if you dont need it fixed immediately take the 2 hoses off from the firewall (One is supply and one return) and couple them together this will bypass the heater core until you are ready to fix it, good luck
