Front hub locked in

I hear a clicking adn whining noise going down the road and with the wheel off it clicks when i turn the rotor like hub is locked in

Does the sound get worse when you turn the wheel sharply? Best way to check is to raise the front end and try moving the shaft(s) going to the front wheel. Should not have any play in it.

Why do I hear grinding noises while driving?


Hit in the rear axle may have damaged bearings or brake parts. Jack up the side you hear noise from, put on stand, then have helper rotate wheel while you look underneath and listen to see where noise is coming from. Use length of old fuel or heater hose, one end in ear, to locate exactly where noise comes from.

What is causing clicking noise in front end?


Check the backside Of your tire. I drive an 89' f-150, and had a very similar noise. Turns out I had a rock jammed in my rotor and it was hitting the caliper every time the wheel made a rotation. I ultimately had to use a crowbar to pry the rock out. The other thing you could, and should, check is your brakes on that side. Check break pads, rotor condition, and confirm that your caliper is not worn out. I would also suggest checking your lockout hub. It could very well be that your lockout is worn out, and catching just a little bit, even though it is supposedly unlocked and disengaged. While your down there, check the joints of your front axle to check for any slop or play in them. Replace as needed.

Replaced front hubs and still have roaring noise


clicking noise from front end while spinning tyres is an indication of failing cv joints. especially while turning the wheel from left to right. Suggest you replace the shafts

Front passenger side 'clicking' noise?


no brake problem as it is not there when on jacks
most clicks are failing cv joints are are normally when going slow and on a bit of a turn
Take it to a drive line specialist shop for a proper diagnosis

I have a ford taurus 2003 . when i start the car the whining noise isnt present but once i go down the road it starts and gets louder the faster i go . i am thinking transmission . anything i can do ? ....


Actually it sounds more like a wheel bearing(rear wheels) or hub bearing(front). You should make every attempt to get this fixed as soon as possible. If you continually drive the vehicle, the defected bearing(s) can and will seize up, locking that wheel and most likely causing other significant damage to your vehicle.

Both ront wheel hubs make ruubbing and slightly grinding noise when moving in reverse. Installed new front brakes adn it's still making the noise.


Did you replace the rotors? If not they could be scored or slightly warped, and when backing up you are going against the "grain" of the scoring on the rotors . You also might want to check the wheel bearings.

I have a ford explorer 2004 /2005, and is given this heavy noise at the front wheel while the there is an increase in speed,what are the signs of a hub bearing, because i am suspecting the front hub...


The best way to check is to lift the corner of the vehicle clear f the ground and then with a trolley jack lift the lower wishbone to put pressure on the suspension spring. This removes any force on the ball joints and bearings associated with the wheel hub. Grab the wheel 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock and rock the wheel from side to side to side. If there is any slack or minor play you will feel it first and possible see and hear it. Now take the wheel in the 6 o'clock and noon positions and and again check for play. Now remove the wheel and apply the rocking motions again to the naked hub. You should be able to see any fault with the steering knuckle, the wishbone control arm ball joints and bushes along with any play in the hub bearing. The bearing should run smooth and you should neither feel or hear any roughness from the bearing. If there is a lot of play detected try this: Remove the locking pin on the main bearing nut and then tighten the nut until free rotation of the hub begins to become stiff. Now loosen the main nut by two flats only and refit the locking pin. Refit the wheel. When driving, a worn bearing is indicated by a persistent whining growl. On front wheels the noise often gets worse during a turn as the weight of the vehicle is transferred. While the wheel is off check the condition of the brake rotor ensuring there are no warps or cracks. A damaged rotor is indicated often by a thump thump sound front he wheel and this is accentuated and felt through the brake pedal when the brakes are applied

Front end noise when turning. almost sounds like


There are a couple of things to cause metallic sounds when turning. First thing, is if it's a clicking sound when you turn, then you have a cv joint going bad. It's usually more prominent when moving in reverse, however it can happen just as well while moving forewards. Secondly, if it's more of a grinding or scraping noise, we have a couple of options. The sound could be coming from the brakes, if they're worn or have grit stuck in them, or it could be bad bearings in the front wheel hub. The wheel hub has a tendency to making a whining noise when driving; usually most easily heard when driving past buildings. They can also allow the tire/wheel to present the appearance of leaning when looking at it. If bad enough, it can even rub on the brake caliper, or cause the disc brake rotor to wear out the brake pads prematurely. So, to recap: Check:
CV joints, if a clicking sound brakes or wheel hub bearings if grinding or whining sound.

4 wheel drive (auto locking hubs) seems to be trying to engage.


I had the same thing happen. The automatic locking hubs are faulty, causing one or both hubs to try to engage or disengage onto the front driveshaft. This makes the clicking noise and loud clunking that you hear. You may notice your steering pulling to one side of the road,because one hub is locked in. Replace the automatic hubs with new ones, do not try to fix the old ones. I liked the
convience of automatic hubs but replaced mine with manual hubs, there just way more reliable.
