The starter probably burnt, i won't guarantee you this. but without first checking the starter, it's a wild guess.

Maybe it will work after it cools. When starter selinoid is going bad they stop working when they get hot from the engine operating. Also if you can get to the starter to hit it with something solid like a hammer or metal rod. Just moderate taps, don't try to hurt it or anything around it. often this will get you started so you can get home. good luck

I have a 97 Crown Vic/w police interceptor....I asked a question several days ago because of issuses I'm having with my car. The car starts sometimes, with no problems. Other times...it won't...

Sounds like its a starter problem,if you can pull the starter off take it to an auto parts store,

there are many locations that have equipment to put a load on the starter, and they will be

able to tell if its bad. once you pull the starter off, if you can check the teeth on the fly wheel,

if there is a dead spot, the starter could spin and not engage the flywheel. I hope it's the

starter. the bendix on the starter the teeth that engage the flywheel could also have dead

spot's. and not engage all the time. good luck!

My timing chain tensioner was loose, however i kept driving my car cause i had important errands to run. When I parked it to go in the store and came back out and started it up again it wouldn't. Lights...

If the tensioner was loose and the chain had jumped a slot, you would have a hard time even starting the car if it even start at all. It would crank and everything but just would not start. The starter has no correlation with the tensioner. A bad starter will either do nothing, or it would clunk and not turn over.

Starter issues with 98 Ford Windstar (3.8)

one problem that the 98 winstars ( 3,8L ) are prone to is the transmission range sensor. they are badly located and not well sealed. As a result corosion...
The starter solenoid wire ( red/ light blue ) runs throught the range sensor before reaching the ignition switch.
Try shifting back and forth between Park and L1 rapedly at least 5, 6 times and then try starting in Neutral.
If it starts the TRS is easy to replace and accesible.
( The TRS is also responsible for the transmission going into irradical kick down mode )
