You say the engine won't turn over yet it acts like it wants to start which sounds like it is turning over. Please clarify. If it is turning over but not actually starting it could be related to the temp data error. for most cars the two main sensors for fuel delivery are the oxygen sensor and the engine temp sensor. It would help you alot to get a scanner to read the computer. this would reveal a code which says where the problem really is. good luck

Hey Les , how's it going ? The thing to do would be hook-up a scan tool an see what the ECM is seeing as far as engine temperature data ! Could have a shorted coolant temp. sensor . And when the check engine light is on a trouble code is present an should point you in the right diagnostic path . For some reason the engine computer thinks the engine is hot when it's not. Battery indicator light comes on above idle RPM, gauges start fluctuating.

The first thing you need to know is what the alternator output is when this starts happening.
It could be a faulty connection in the wiring harness, or a bad ground connection, or a failing alternator.

Won't turn over. The instrument cluster won't work

ok iif the instrument cluster does not work.. before i give a solution can you tell me if it have atach and temp gage not a temp gage witha idiot light but a actual temp gage.. because if temp gage and fule gage hands are not in their proper place like if yo uhave a 1/4 tank of gas and it reads way past full and the temp gage is gone out of site way past say 240 degrees then it is your speedo head .. have this trouble the other day on a chevy 2002 cavalier.. replaced the head and wahla the car started. it seems the speedo head is tied in with the computer system on these cars.. and if the tach is not working you need not worry if you cannot find a head with a built in tach.. a normal speedo head with out the tach part will also work.. just when you change the head count the pins on the old one and compare it to the new one if they match then just plug it in and car should start..

I replaced the starter, front brakes were needed, the left cooling fan motor, and the ECM and the car still will not start. The new ECM came pre programed and flashed for a simple, excuse the term plug and...

you are not getting spark to the plugs, forget the codes for now, get an inline spark tester and check all plugs and wires, i say forget the codes cause till the engine runs the codes won't be accurate and the ecm does not control spark just the timing

2 things come to mind. first a trickle charg will take about 8 to 10 hours to fully charge the battery, so you might need to charge it longer to see if the battery takes a full charge. did you try jumping the car with another.
second is it possible the charger was hooked up backwards (pos to neg and vice versa)

Does not start. Acts like battery is dead but battery is strong. As the engine slowly turns over the tach will bounce all over. When the engine acts like the battery is dead and will not turn over the tach...

IT could be either. Remove the Starter and take it to Auto Zone or another parts store that offers free testing and have it tested. Most likely the oil leak in that area is fouling things for you. It should be sealed against that type of problem but may need to be rebuilt or replaced.
