You used a 3/8" ratchet or belt tensioner tool to rotate the tensioner out of the way of the belt. It will come back towards the belt when released, and you will have to take the tension off when putting the new belt on.

Some use a wrench or if room allows socket n wrachet, and some simply use the rachet end 3/8" in heavy duty cases 1/2' and simply pry in the direction it allows you to pry...careful tension it will spring back.

What bolts do I loosen to tighten the power sterring belt on my 1981 buick reveria

IF you have a serpentine belt it's not a matter of adjusting the power steering belt tension because it's done automatically with a serpentine belt tensioner.
OTOH, if you have a separate V-belt you'll need to loosen the mounting bolt/nut at the bottom of the steering pump and the adjustment bracket then tighten the belt by moving the adjustment nut to tighten the belt.
You might be able to google a video of your particular engine power steering belt adjustment.

Replace serpentine belt

USA cars. only.
how to?
did you mean HOW to? (where, what ,when ,how , why, etc)

which engine, and which of 2 belts.?
the cam belt? G16 engine.? nah.
or the accessories belts.? I'll guess, Accessory drive belts.
guess 2:
my guess, is H25/7 V6 engine? or bigger V6. same family
"in the factory service manual on all suzuki's it is"
this is covered in the FSM book by suzuki, or or
suzuki pit stop plug, for $4
this has been asked now on fixya 100s of times and answered more.

the J27 engine, as fitted on USA cars (this is a USA forum,so...)
has 2 belts. one for ALT/pump
with a slotted, adjustable idle tension pulley (no springs)
one for P/S - A/C side.
it has a :
To adjust P/S and A/C belt tension, turn tension pulley using hexagon wrench.

see here for a clear view on H25

on the newer cars the alternator method changed,
and is more like the A/C side.

see arrow, my 04 dont have that. part.
on my 04 the alternator moves. (tilts) look first to see what YOU have. The G16 engines, is more tricky, but you have the V6 i think.
there are only 3 types, of tension systems.
1: TILT (alt, or P/S)
2: like below, with slot ,see slot? no springs here
3: spring loaded, idler, with allen key hole for release. J20) style.
so now you know what is there,
so ill just do above belt. (how to replace and tension)
  1. loosen both 12mm bolts at idler.
  2. the belt goes slack
  3. remove belt
  4. put on new
  5. set tension to 10mm deflection at 22lbs force mid span.
  6. lock screws down .
  7. done.
that covers no spring, idler.
the link above shows, how to do the spring drive type, with a hex 10mm key "allen"

I want to replace the serpentine belt on a 2003 Buick LeSabre Custom with V6. How do I release tension on it?

look for small pulley with a square hole in it then you will have to install a 3/8 ratchet into it and pull in either direction until you see the belt loosen its a spring loaded tensioner so it will return once pressure is relieved, be careful these tensioners are very strong. in some cases they use a bolt and you will have to use a socket to release the tension most tensioners are located towards the center of the belt routing.

Replace belt

Locate the belt tensioner! It will need to be turned in a direction that wil loosen the belt. up or down i,m not remembering!
next look for a square hole to place a breakover bar in. to move the tensioner. If not you will need a socket placed on the bolt head in the center of the tensioner pulley. This is the only pulley of all the others that you can move,in a circular motion to loosen(remove the tension, and reinstall the new serpintien belt.Check the new belt for length to the old one,are they the same length?
Next if you dont se a decale-sticker,with the belt routing,it is wise to draw one out for your own use. The 4 cylinder engine is a snap, the v6 a bit more complicated, but, you can do it! If i can you can ok??? Remember that the grooved belt side goes on,around the outside of the diameter,of the grooved pulley.the flat faced pulley or pulley's run next to the flatside of the belt. Have a helper unload the tension of the tensioner while you place the belt on and around the pulleys in the correct routing. If the belt seems too long try again for proper routing.Once on, release the tension, and see that the pully is not binding up or running loose, this will damage the new belt.

How to change a belt on a 1995 Buick Century

A listing of serpentine belt diagrams can be found HERE. It will show you the location of the tensioner pulley, which must be loosened in order to remove and install the new belt. When the new belt is on, just readjust the tension via the tensioner pulley.

Removal of serpentine belt on a 1996 Buick automobile?

check if it has a tensioner, it look like a useless pully and put a breaker bar on it and pull it and the belt should loosen up, if theres no tensioner the alternator should have bolts to loosen up the belts.
