Sounds like a manual gearbox. The gears are selected by 3 levers on the side of the gear housing; 1+R, 2+3 and 4+5. Check underneath that one of the selector rods from the underside of the gear selector stick has not disconnected from its corresponding gear housing lever, they are often held in place by a collet and spring clip.

Did you check the transmission fluid level? if it is OK, then you need to have a transmission specialist look into this.

1995 Toyota Tacoma 3.4L 5-speed manual feels like 4x4 is not fully engaging.

check that the clutch is fully engaging by checking if there is free play at the throw out lever and clutch push rod . If you cannot push the rod back into the cylinder then the slipping is because the clutch is only partially engaged. Replace the clutch master cylinder if that is the case. If it is right then the fault will be in the pressure plat/ cutch plate and it may require a clutch kit.

5 speed trans 96 tacoma jumping out of gear 1st through 4th gears when you let off the gas

Hi there,

This commonly occurs when either the Shift Linkage is faulty (or simiply needs adjustment), Shifter Fork is loose, or there is excessive movement of the Input Shaft.

Adjusting the shift linkage would be your first task. If this doesn't correct the problem, then you will need to investigate the other 2 components as suggested above.

Cheers,

1996 Saturn auto trans will not shift into 4th

Check your transmission fluid. If it is bright almost pinkish-red then it is not the transmission. If it is dark red or brown then you need to either get a flush done or replace your transmission depending on the severity.
