Are you getting a check engine light. This sounds like a bad oxygen sensor. try a parts store and get a scan on the computer. this can detect a bad sensor even if there are no codes set in the computer. This sensor helps control fuel delivery. It makes the motor run lean then rich and reports this to the computer as low voltage then high voltage and the computer adjusts the injectors.

1988 olds cutlass 2.8 v6 4sp trany seems to stick in overdrive. trany fluid looks and smells fine. also shifts fine going up.

Hello,
I have a Olds Cutless Ciera 1089 with the 2.8 MFI V6, and my car was stalling more and more coming to a stop. It would always start right up, but as soon as I put in back in drive many times would stall again. You can try to prove that it is the Lock up clutch converter solenoid which is inside of a side cover on the drivers side. I unplugged mine and the problem went away for good. Per a GM dealership shop tech, said It won't hurt anything for a while. He said it wasn't urgent to fix a sticking solenoid, for weeks or months, but should fix it sometime. You might lose some of the gas mileage from unplugging it, no lock up at upper speeds. Old school cars never even had these, and they were plenty problematic in GM cars, of getting stuck or staying sticky. Hope this helps.

Hi, my 105k milesNissan Quest GLE has been good vehicle with mediocre mileage until now. Gas mileage started declining (and continues), plus vehicle idles high in P/N, plus will stall out in gear sitting...

COULD BE GASKET ON MANIFOLD CRACK BUT ALSO TRY CLEANING YOUR AIR FILTER AND ALSO YOUR THROTTLE BODY THAT COULD HELP WITH THE GAS MILEAGE BUT IF YOUR LOSING COMPRESSION WHILE SITTING STILL IT COULD BE CRACK SOMEWHERE AND SUCKING IN AIR AT THAT POINT AND THATS WHY YOU STALL OUT

1988 dodge mini ram stalls

Porbably not getting enough gas or dirty. My 88 dodge caravan did that too until I put a cheap fuel-injector cleaner in with the gas, and started giving it more gas even in lower gears driving around town. Worth a try...

Zx2 engine stalls at idle speeds

Your symptoms can be from many things however I have seen this often from stopped up fuel filters in several different cars.
It could also be from very bad gas.
My suggestion is that if the car has high mileage OR you have recently goten gas from an unfamiliar service station, you shoudo change the fuel filter and put some good fuel additive in (after the new filter) to get rid of any water or other contaminates in the gas tank.
I recommend "SeaFoam". It is more expensive that others but has a very good reputation. It really works!

tork converter is locking out see if you can unplug it as a quick fix it will be a round plug on the training should fix the problem but remember its only temporary as to you will lose overdrive and kill gas mileage by 5-6 miles a gallon but it wont damage anything
