The most common overheating problem with the Northstar engine is a blocked purge line(small hose). The purge line is designed to purge air out of the cooling system.
There is a small diameter hose coming from near the top of the coolant tank (not the cap) ,this is the purge line.
With the engine idling, pull the purge line from the tank,if there is no coolant flow from this small hose,it is blocked and this will cause overheating.
If the hose is clear, check for blockage at the nipple on the tank.Or trace the hose back until you find the blockage.
The hose goes in to the engine to a crossover and comes out the other side close to the thermostat housing, the blockage may be there.

Can you elaborate more on the burning oil? do you drive the car exactly? you baby it or do you floor the accelerator occasionally?........what grade of oil do you use?

The oil burning may also be a consequence of your overheating problem so check the purge line first as described above.

A car that keeps overheating should not be driven.

Light blue smoke is burning engine oil. This is probably a sign that overheating has damaged the engine.

Water pump can leak coolant, make a noise and even wreck the engine under some circumstances but they have little to do with engine oil. If the water pump leaks it is an external leak.

If there are no external coolant leaks then yes it could be the head gasket or perhaps a crack somewhere...

3.5 L 6VE1 DOHC V6
3.0 L 4JX1 TD I4

floods, wot cranking cuts fuel and starts any flooded engine,
it's overheating that wins the First order failures rule sets.
nothing else matters. cure that first.! find cause! first.

sounds (im deaf there, lol) that smoke is out tail pipe end and dissipates fast and is not smoke but steam, , oil smoke smells like burning oil and lingers. steam smells sweet like burning Antifreeze.
AF steam is a blown head gasket or far worse.
do a compression test first to see if it's even worth fixing????
most are NOT. (unless free labor, sure)

first learn steam from smoke
serious , watch moms tea pot. see that steam goes away fast.and very uniquely , now watch burning oil.
remove dip stick, drop the drip of oil on hot exhaust manifold.
smell that, that is oil burning, and lingers.
this will last you a life time of blown engines..... just one look and bingo. (my instructor in 1965 did in front of class)

got oil in the AF/ CARBON chunks in same.
water in oil, ? pan, engine . milky oil.
rad leak down test fail? can be lots of reasons even a cracked block.or head. not just gaskets.

Sx4 burning oil,no visual oil leaks.what could cause this?

wow no year, no country and no engine stated, now that is a challenge. no engine mileage either, 50k or 300k? miles>?
so what makes you think its burning oil.?
long lasting white cloud behind you and EPA (MOT) in hot pursuit?
or every week oil level drops (can )
my guess is drop only.
so HOW many miles for 1/2 qt loss.?? that be first.
all cars burn oil , all do !
and the faster you go , the more so. how fast? do you go, here in dallas we
have a 85mph freeway with folks doing 90 allday.
they burn more. oil;.here. sure do.

Serviced for MOT< that means CANADA right?
we dont have MOT in the USA this forum is USA (calif)
here its smog stations, EPA regulated.

did they put in very thing oil in your car?
like 0w ?
the thinner oil can walk past the lower oil control ring
and down leaky valve seals.

also get a new PCV valve and keeping pressures down this
way cuts oil consumption.

is this car new to you?
the driver must learn his/her oil usage by checking oil
about every other fuel fill up. then learn rate of burn.
and add it , when at 1/2 qt low , learned in advance.
predict it and win.

What causes dash say reduce engine power

You need to have fault scan to identify what sensor triggered light. Reduced Engine power is telling you that it's in LIMP mode.

I was on my way home and my check engine light came on then i seen that my oil pressure was low i pulled over and there was a fast leak from the driver side of the motor took 2 5l jugs to get home

Check the obvious things first, are you low on water? are you low on oil? are you over heating, if these all check out then you probably have a defective censor somewhere. emission censors can do this also. Oil sending unit, water temp censor, etc.

Overheating, Miss Firing, and Running Rough

Smell the coolant. Is there any hint of gas smell? Also look at oil, any coffee coloring indicates problems.
