2003 hyundai elantra idles low,lag in acceleration

I have a 2003 hyundai elantra and its hard to start..like it doesnt want to but it does sometimes on the first try but it sounds like its gonna turn off and the battery is good, it idles really low at like 500 rpms and when u step on the pedal it lags to accelerate and then after a few seconds the rpms build and then it takes off like ur racing..and it has a check engine light for a cam shaft position sensor and the dealer i bought it from said they already replaced it so they were gonna try to replace the ecu next and today i did new spark plugs on it and had the battery disconnected and and it ran perfect, like the it idled at like 1000 rpms and it accelerated perfectly and then it started to slowly idle lower and lower within the next few minutes and then the acceleration went backt to what it was and everything is still the same and idk what to do. :(

hard to trouble shoot but it seems theres a electrical issue or you ISC (idle speed control) is going bad because this valve closes and opens when the a/c is on or the power steering is in use at idle, did you check for OBD2 codes? try cleaning the throttle body with some carb cleaner and also the ISC valve, heres a pic of what it looks like you will have to remove the air cleaner and next to the throttle body you will see this valve it's also common for they to fail after high milage.

Have you checked the air filter and filter box for a blockage ?
Low fuel pressure would also be a possible cause.

You may want to check for a broken vacume line it will cause a high acceleration. Also have the code extracted and see what it says let me know or post it it would be helpful in giving you a more precise diagnosis.

im guessing its a auto and not a stick either way get it fixed just driving it you ruined the band letting it slip like that either get a junkyard used 1 with a warranty and have someone put it in or have the one you have rebuild

2000 Hyundai Elantra Transmission problem

I don't know if I can help but as an owner of a Hyundai Elantra 2000 GLS with 205,000 miles and the original clutch and transmission I'll try and help!

I always start with the lowest cost solution first and avoid mechanics as much as possible!

Have you checked the trans fluid?
It should be changed every 30,000 miles!
Sometimes a Lucas Trans Fluid will cure - fix slippage!

Have you checked for a clutch adjustmet!
An adjustment can cure - fix slippage!

Are you a clutch rider with your foot always on the clutch?
If so you may have worn out the clutch!

How many miles to you have on your Hyundai Elantra 2000?
