Look at the simple stuff first such as spark and fuel pressure. Make sure all of the normal tune up items are taken care of such as plugs, wires, fuel filter, etc. Look at the fuel pressure and make sure that is up to spec. Also make sure the check engine light isn't on and there aren't any trouble codes stored.

If everything with the fuel system looks ok then I would look at possibly an intermittent problem with either the camshaft position sensor or the crankshaft position sensor. The Cam sensor should be located on the lower right of the engine, above the crank pulley.

The Crank sensor should be located behind the right side of the crank pulley. There could be an issue with the wiring for either sensor as well that is causing the vehicle to intermittently shut off.

Is the check engine light on ?
It sounds like the engine temp sensor is not right, but if that were true you should have a check engine light and a code for the sensor.
Have you checked fuel pressure ?

I have a 1994 buick skylark with 2.3 and a/t it runs and drives great except when slowing from high speeds it dies when approaching a stop. it jerks like transmission isn't shifting. when u restart it,...

Check for vacuum leaks on all hoses underhood. Make sure all intake componets are intact and they are tight.

Is the check engine light on? If so, get to an auto parts store, they should pull the codes for free.

Sounds almost like a bad throttle position sensor. The computer uses the TPS to help know when to shift on this car if I remember right, and if the TPS is bad, it can cause that jerking. Along with the car dying when slowing down after driving. But check everything else out first. Including electrical connections.

Car stalls when no acceleration and then tap on the gas to accelerate.

sounds like a sensor problem, you could unplug one at a time and see what happins. check codes first.

It stalls only in drive the idel is good and it does stall in reverse

Check the prnd indicater switch on the shift shaft on the transmission,it could cause this if it is defective. Also,if it has a lock up converter,it could be locked in,it has a four wire connector on the transmission, and you can unplug it,let the engine cool,so it will release, then try and drive the vehicle.

Car hissing sound

The noise maybe the p/s pump fluid return,GM had some problem with this but nothing bad. GM makes a resticter that goes in the return line of the pump, it will slow the fluid down going back in the pump stopping the hissing sound.
