273 will work for gas milage and speed. if you want some fast takeoffs, lower top speed, and bad gas mileage then go to around 3.50 maybee even 4.11
i would shoot for around 3.50

I took out the 700r4 and installed a th350 now at 65 mph my rpms are 5000 why?

You have no 4th gear overdrive, the engine runs faster due to that gear difference. I would change the rear end gears to a higher ratio like a 2.73: 1

Im trying to figure out what rear end my 1985 Dodge d150 with a 318 has. Its two Wheel Drive and im sure Its factory. I am not familiar with Dodge and am looking to replace it possibly with a better read...

if its not jacked up and has factory stock wheels on it and going to stay that way keep the stock ratio in the rear end its not the rear end that makes it go faster its the motor then trans then rear end so why besides to do something to it ok put a blower on it spend the money where its going to count and look good doing it

I want to put a 700r4 in a 86 suburban 7.4liter for better gas milage.lts a 8 lug so do i have to change the rear end also?

No, your rear gears should match well with the 700R4, which is quite possibly the best automatic transmission ever produced by GM.

What is the gear ratio on a 1991 dodge dakota 4x2. V8 319

The standard gear ratio for a '91 Dakota with the 318 V-8 was the 3.55 ring and pinon. The 3.90 or the 3.21, or the 2.76 could be ordered as an option. However the most of the Dakotas, either the V-6 or the V-8 were ordered with the 3.55 non-locking rear axles. Also your truck may have had either the 7.25" rear end, having a differential cover that is shaped ( 8 sides) like a "stop sign". Most likely will have the 8.25" rear end, having a "more rounded" differential cover. With your truck being a 318 V-8 the 8.25" rear end was more common. Hope that helps.

Need to know what speedometer gear is in a stock 85 caprice

There is no one stock speedo gear in a Chev. It is dependant on the combination of rear end ratio, transmission and tire size. Each car has the potential to be different. Theyare easily interchangeable. There is a small bolt holding a clamp where the speedo cable goes into the trans. Unbolt it and the speedo gear pops right out and slides off the end of the cable. If your speedometer is too slow put a bigger gear on, too fast needs a smaller one. It's trial and error but I think each tooth difference is 5 MPH, it's been awhile. Hope this helps.

4L80E trans harsh and late upshifts

Found trans to be a mis build,, had a rear planetary with no reluctor ring for the output speed sensor ,, sensor was picking up a false signal from moving internals. This caused a gear ratio error, wich defaulted the trans and was not contolling the pressure, default pressure went high causing late and harsh shifts .

Can i use transmisson from other type in my c2500 1983 chevy

your cheapest bet is to go with a different gear ratio in the rear diff(the lower the ratio the higher speed and less rpm) but if your truck has a 3 speed automatic you can put a 4 speed with overdrive (700r4 would be the best)
is your truck 2wd or 4wd?
hope this helps!

What tranny

Your truck was equipped with a turbo 400. Look at pan and shape to determine trans. Square will be 700R4 , long to the rear will be 4L80E but this trans. requires computer.
