Landreth2,

Is this carborated or fuel injected?

If carborated, the fuel intake needs to be adjusted on the carborated. If fuel injected, you may need to replace the fuel pump relay. While the pump will still work, if the relay is shot, then it's not telling the sending unit (fuel pump) how much fuel to bring up to mix with the O2 (oxygen).

Here is what i suggest: fuel injected:

1. Replace fuel pump relay (under hood in fuel relay box (black), and should be labeled on back side of cover for locating)
2. Replace the O2 sensor (takes special wrench, but can be done with open end wrench or Cresent Wrench. (this is not necessary, but best as it will help the engine with the correct fuel mixture and will increase fuel mileage and decrease fuel consumption)

Here is what i suggest if carborated: carborator:

1. Purchase if necessary a repair manual (or borrow) or look up online at Google for manual. (sometimes you can find exact instruction for certain procdures). Manuals (at auto parts dealer) will have a list toward the front of the book with common problems for its particular vehicle, that will opt for certain repair solutions)<-- this would be your best choice.

2. Follow instructions per manual for adjusting the carborator fuel intake.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance with this matter.

Cordially,

Try replacing the spark plugs and wires, and cap,and rotor button. Also, the fuel filter, and the coolant sensor,if the engine does not sense the right temp,it can do this.Check the air filter, and replace if it is dirty, the tune up will most likely fix the problem.

I have a 1990 ford 4.9 straight 6 that floods out when cold.

Could be the "heat riser" isn't working properly. Also check the choke on the carb. Both are there to help with cold running. If it's injected, not carburetor, check temp sensor.

Car starts when cold not when hot

If it cranks normally when hot, could be that an injector is leaking enough to slightly flood engine and this is okay when cold. Could also be cold start injector is not completely shutting off when hot.

Jeep will start and run then after you shut it off it will not start ?

NO start, but cranks ok ! (guessing i am on that cranking bit...)
no engine size stated, so cant be ACCURATE.
wont start hot. ok cold
so when hot it fails, and when hot that is when we try to fix it or diagnose it.. not cold.
so got spark on all unstated engine cylinders?
all must work not just one
ever get a full tuneup this decade or even ever?
when it dont start, did you read the oper guide.
and do the wide open throttle , cranking, and see IF the engine unfloods? (this is feature on all EFI cars).

all cars do this ignored, all do.
service it? ever?

if spark is good, try test fuel.
if test fuel works for 3seconds, or starts and runs hot, say so now?
if test fuel fails, check spark tips for soaking in fuel or bone dry.
if soaking, , its flooded,
if flooding it is, we work flooding
ask.how, (can be many reasons. more tests... )
like that....

i offer only one guess, on all cars, all cars ignored!!
eva get a tuneup?

Engine will not turn over after cold weather

which engine?

cranks but will not start or remain running

tune up time, cold damp cause spark parts bad

oldest story in world. damp conducts, bad insulators do wet.

end result , bad spark.

flooding ? crank wide open throttle, (oper, guide, on start page.s...)_

check spark..,got spark to all cylinders

yes,

try test fuel, if not flooded,

starts then stalls?

1989 mpv mazda does not start on cold mornings and days

I'm assuming the engine cranks with the starter but does not start and run.

check the operation of the cold start injector. This is a separate fuel injector that injects fuel into the intake manifold to help richen up the mixture for cold starts. It operates on a timer that is linked to a sensor that measures engine coolant temperature. Once warm or the timer runs out, the cold start injector is turned off. Other things to check:

Fuel pressure too high (floods engine through cold start injector), engine coolant temp sensor or intake air temp sensor is stuck at full hot (doesn't allow enough fuel for cold starts), fuel injectors are leaking (floods engine with fuel).

1984 Volvo will not start - I have spark and fuel to the cylinders. It just cranks and cranks and floods the cylinders. I am a bit of a "back yard mechanic" and have tried everything I can think...

you probably have weak spark or it is flooding due to too high fuel pressure. is the timing good the firing order correct has the cam belt timing slipped, missing teeth. is the cold start injector open all the time.

It's fuel injected! Tell me where you come up with flooding? It won't start on a cold day, other wise okey and runs well,I doubt it?

Experienced recent cold weather. Car will not

It's flooded like you say.
If it's really flooded, you'll have to remove plugs and dry them off.
Install them.
Now when you crank engine, hold gas pedal to floor.
That will stop gas from spraying into engine.
You need to get the gas out of the engine for it to start.
Crank for 20-30 seconds with pedal to floor. Do this 3 times waiting 2-3 minutes inbetween cranks.
The starter needs to cool down.
Then after that start normally and see if it will start.
Remember if it will not start after 2 attempts, then the possiblity of it flooding is there and you'll have to clear out the gas by holding the pedal to the floor again.

2002 odyssey injectors flooding

The owner's manual offers these tips on starting in cold weather. First, do not touch the gas pedal and crank the engine for no longer than 15 seconds. If no start, hold the gas pedal halfway down and crank for no longer than 15 seconds. If no start, hold gas pedal all the way down and crank for 15 seconds. If no start, hold gas pedal halfway down and crank for 15 seconds. During any one of the start attempts with the gas pedal part/all the way down, if the engine should start, slowly release the pedal so the engine will not race. Remember that fuel does not atomize as easily in cold weather and can be a problem.
