Question about 1999 Audi A6

1 Answer

My daughters 1999 Audi A6 has been shutting off whenever she makes a u-turn recently. The battery light goes on when this happens. She puts it in park and turns the key and it starts right back up no problem, but this obviously raises a concern for her safety. Whats the problem?

Not likely related to the battery dying. Have your transmission oil replaced as a start, this fixes a lot of transmission issues. If that doesn't work, have it checked by a transmission shop, could be anything from a switch to a transmission rebuild.

My Audi A6 2.4 (1999) underwent repairs and the battery was removed. Radio would not switch on after battery was replaced.

That is a theft preventative action done by the manufacturers. Whenever power is disconnected to the radio, a code must be entered to get it operative again. In some cases it might be on a paper with your operators manual or written on a paper in the same packet. Worst case, just take it to your Audi dealer like I have in th epast and within 5 minutes they can have your radio working, provide you what the unlock code is and most likely won't charge you a dime to do it.

Good Luck

Audi A6 2006 problem with battery

Yes
First thing is to test the battery and this is how Turn on head lights, if dull leave on to see how long the stay on for. Next turn lights off put battery on charge for 6 hrs .Turn on lights again if still dull either battery or charger no good
If lights bright try to start and when starter trys to turn engine over the lights go dim THEN battery is no good.
Then get a jump start from another battery and put pos term on both batterys first, then earth lead(BLACK) on last then start if starts ok remove the BLACK lead and turn on head lights if goes bright ALTERNATORs ok so replace battery ....

Battery light stays on until I press the gas

Known issue to occur occasionally on VW/Audi. What is occurring is that the alternator is not spinning out fast enough to start charging, so the light is on. Once you rev the engine, the alternator starts to charge and remains charging till its shut off and restarted. It can be related to too low of an idle (not adjustable, unless you have a dirty throttle plate or air leak), the alternator itself (aftermarket or a bad rebuild) or an incorrect alternator pulley installed (too large).

The battery on my 2003 Audi A6 keeps dying. I

Sound's like a bad alternator, you can check the alternator by measuring the voltage on the battery when the car is started, it should measure above 12.6 volt's but not higher than 14.5 volt's, check the drive belt tension, a lose or wore drive-belt could cause problem's with the alternator charging the batery, check the battery terminal's for corrosion, along with the connection's of the battery cable's.
Hope this help's, good luck.
