Original could have fried because the power motor fried or you could have wiring that is melted and electrically open. You need a voltmeter and a schematic of that system and start checking for missing 12vdc.

Drivers side power windows go down but not up.

Try replacing the switch. Sometimes the switch contacts on one side will wear out. You can use a multi meter to see if you have continuity through the switch. If you have it, then the window motor is bad and needs to be replaced.

Why my drivers window is inop after replacement of master switch

The wires (inside the door) from the master switch to the fuse-box must be broken -- no electric-power is reaching the motor that lowers/raises the window. Take the whole door apart, and use a continuity-testing multi-meter to verify that the motor is receiving power, and that the switch is opening/closing properly.

Power windows do not work. replaced the main swich. have power to swich and coming out of switch. i cant believe all 4 window motors are fryed. power door lock switchs do not work either!

this sounds like a fuse problem. In the owners manual( under fuses and relays) it will tell you which one it is. its probably a 10 or 15 amp fuse. try this first, and if not, let me know. hope this helps

Power windows dont work

If all four windows are out using the master switch you have a faulty master switch. Most of the time the master switch goes out either because the driver one time or another spilled a beverage on the switches or the wiring connector to the switch caused a short and fried the switches. Test for power at the switches. if you got power to the switches and no power at the window motors when testing you have a bad switch assembly.

Windows have stopped working

First check the fuses if you have not done so. You will need to remove the door panel to get to the driver side window switch, the power for all of the windows enters through the driver side switch. Use a multi meter to determine if power is reaching the switch, if it is not, run a temporary wire from the fuse panel to the switch and see if that will work the windows. If it now works you know the problem is a bad wire. If you are getting power to the switch but not power out the other side you know the switch is bad and must be replaced.

Passenger Window Problem

On the passenger door, look for a broken wire in the door opening.

So you found power on one of the two wires. That was with holding the switch in one position, either up or down, right? Try it again, now hold the switch in the opposite position as before, now the other wire that had no power the first time should now have power. If not, probably a break in the wiring, look in the door jamb. If not a broken wire in the passenger door, it could be in the driver's door.

You see, the power is reversible to the window motors. When power goes down one wire to the motor, the other wire serves as a ground. The ground path goes back to the driver's master switch, where the ground for all the windows originate. Ground wire from master switch carries power to ground somewhere inside the cabin. Since other windows work, your ground is good. but the pass. window is, or seems to be missing a wire. Check by looking for power on both wires, but the window switch has to be opposite from the first time for the second wire to have power. Only if both show power is the wiring good, but they wont both show power at the same time-the switch has to be in right position to show power.
I hope this is clear, post back if you don't understand.

Oh yes, use the ohmmeter function of your multi-meter to check the wires' integrity. Just don't have any power on any of the wires you are checking, but check between the pass. door and the driver's master. Check both wires that go to the passenger window. That should tell you if you have a break in the wiring.

Frying power window switches

I had a similar problem in my 1993 Safari. Problem turned out NOT to be a switch, but a broken wire in the driver side door opening between the door and the frame. I found a cut in the wiring insulation, and it corroded, breaking. This disabled the window control.
