Question about 1996 Mercury Sable
Hope you have it replaced by now but if not you need to go in from the bottom you have to disconect yhe lower ball joint swing it out of the way you will have to undo bolts and move it around to disconect wires Just be sure to conect wires 1st when putting it back in there is no way to conect once you bolt it into position hope this helps

Remove and replace... that was alot of help. you forgot to say open the hood. people need to know what to move out of the way, should you go from the top or the bottom of the car... things like that

Disconnect the positive battery cable from the battery. Unplug the plug to the alternator. Remove the nut holding the other wire to the alternator. Remove the belt, make sure to record the belt routing. Remove the alternator mounting bolts.
