Question about 1999 Pontiac Sunfire

1 Answer

We've replaced the MAP sensor and coil pack in my daughters 1999 pontiac sunfire. It's a 2.4L, DOHC but the engine is shaking when it idles. We think it may have a broken motor mount, but when the engine is reved up, the shaking stops. We do hear an occasional puttering sound when it's idling. What else should we check?

Do a compression test of the cylinders, could be a burnt valve, from what you describe engine is missfiring on idle and running on all cylinders at higher revs

One coil serves those two cylinders (no. 1 and 4), so try repllacing that coil.

Where is the cam sensor on a 95 pontiac sunfire with a 2.2 liter engine?

I think the crank sensor is next to the oil filter, and the cam sensor is above the crank sensor.

I have a 96 Pontiac sunfire GT with the 2.4 engine it has a super bad misfire I have replaced the map sensor, plugs, coil pack, fuel rails. what elsa could be causeing this promblem

i`m assuming this is a dohc motor.have you checked the ignition module and the connections at the module.its located on the cover where the electrical connector fastens to it.it could also be a jumped timing chain possibly by a bad chain tensioner or worn out chain.
