Question about 1993 Toyota Camry V6
I hit a deer and the air bag deployed. The dealers want $1000+ to replace it. What risks are there in buying a used one from the junk yard. I believe I just need to undo two screws on each side of the steering column after disconnecting the battery. What else would be involved?
You may also need a center sensor assem. it is the brain for the airbag and should only be used once however it is your risk

There is something called a clock spring that is to be replaced and time an air bag is deployed. The main risk is an unexpected deployment while installing a new one. This can kill you!!! You must disconnect the battery(both terminals) and wait 30 min for backup power in the control module to go away. then be careful not to create static while handling the bag. Always hold it so it faces away from you if it where to deploy. There is a yellow conector on the back side and two screws to remove and replace the bag. The clock spring requires pulling the steering wheel. I believe you can rent steering wheel pullers.the clock spring just has screws and a connector. this is not rocket science it is done daily in body shops just follow the precautions and you will be fine
