Have you had problems with clutch slipping up to this point? Like engine revving up and no change in speed while driving. Like going into 4th or 5th gear, letting clutch out, giving gas, and feels like no response? Engine just revs up? That's a slipping clutch. If that's your problem, you need a new clutch.
it will be more noticeable at highway speeds if you use D3 as the transmission won't use the 4th and 5th gears. This will result in higher engine revving (watch the tach) and will use more gas. The car may feel like it's accelerating faster at these speeds, but at the same time, engine braking will slow it more when you take your foot off the gas.King Scanner G3 for Toyota Tis and Honda Him
D3 exists if you are going up (or down) a mountain and want the engine to be limited to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear rather than "searching" for the best of 3rd, 4th, and 5th frequently (although with the grade logic Honda employs this has never annoyed me). ymmv (your mountains may vary).
D3 Doesn't hurt anything; slightly more fuel consumption as the engine will rev higher, but better to be in "D" for normal driving and let the transmission use its full range of gears
I would suspect the pressure plate and clutch need replacing. Your truck is 22 years old and if it has never had the clutch replaced you can almost bet it needs a new clutch and pressure plate. It slips in 4th & 5th gear due to the fact the the ratio is high and it takes more pressure to hold the clutch in place.
This information is from my genuine service manual. I hope it is of help. If the car rev'd up but did not speed up at the same time the clutch is starting to slip. Check the adjustment and recheck driving. When the clutch starts to wear this is how they act, only most people ignore whats happening and keep driving till adjustments won't fix it and the clutch has to be replaced. Have adjustment checked and keep an eye on it and hopefullty you won't need a clutch yet.
boost too high, theres a boost cut out that interupts the engine by cutting out split seconds to stop overboosting,is it stock or has there been mods done
have you checked the fluid level? ther could be several reasons. #1 low fluid level.#2 engine speed sensor.# transmission control module.#4 the solenoids in transmission gummed up or malfuntioning. have these checked out
