Speaker issue on my 1998 Chevy S-10
I put in a new stereo in my truck yesterday, I was having a hard time with finding the wires even though I had a diagram.
Come to find out, One of the power wires was actually Green?? I don't know, But when I try to hook up my Left Rear Speaker, It works fine untill I turn on my truck and then none of the speakers work.
Also, The Left rear setup is Brown is + and Yellow is -.
When I hooked up the yellow, the speaker turned on without the brown even being hooked up... and when I tried to crimp to the brown, all the speakers quit working... Any ideas?

Thought about that, Unfortunately, the previous owner clipped the factory piece out before he put in his aftermarket, I'm upgrading to a DVD, and now I don't know why the left rear speaker is acting so funky. To be honest, as well, There isn't much wiring left in there, So I don't want to screw it up so bad I gotta go out and buy new wire or anything to replace everything that he already clipped off.

Logiczero21,

It sounds like two speaker wires are hooked up to two speakers at the same time, which cancel them out -

Disconnect all the speaker from where they are mounted and take note (write down) which color are hooked to each speaker (if each are different). All rear speakers should share one color, and all front speakers should share one color. Each speaker (positive wire) should have a unique color to it's direction. If not take one speaker at a time. If need be, run wire from on speaker to another to get both (left/right side - front/rear) to work together. This is a simple bypass method, and will work, but will disablet he "balance" option Not fade. Make sure the fuse is still good in the back of the stereo as well as under the dash (fuse panel).

Some stereos have internal fuses, and if another goes out they'll still turn on, but once power is distrubuted to the speakers, they will cut out.

It's a wiring issue, as I recently had this same issue and this is what I had to do. Tedious, taunting, and a pain, but it will work.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance with this matter.

Cordially,

carsandcomps,

I know this may be after the fact but, Best Buy sells the harness for about $20 that plugs directly into the GM factory harness and then you wire it to your new stereo. That way you don't get these little issues that will drive you nuts. This is going to be you best, cleanest, and most permanent fix before the built in amplifier in your stereo gets burned out.

Email me at [email protected] and I can send out some diagrams if you need. It might be best to remove the speaker or if you can isolate that one, hook it to different channels coming off of the new stereo and see if it acts the same with all channels. It could be it has been damaged or that particular channel has been damaged coming from the inside of the stereo unit.

Wiring diagram for radio

if your truck still has the wire connectors for the radio harness then your best bet would be to purchase the plug in adapters from wal-mart or local stereo shop,it should only cost about 10-15 bucks and would clarify your connectivity issues.or get a test light and at least determine power & ground wires then run new speaker wire
