If its a union tighten it a bit, if its a hole in a rusty pipe replace it. Any leaks at points other than unions are usually difficult to fix as the power steering fluid operates at high pressure. The only course of action is to replace the part. A leak can be highlighted by putting the steering to full lock either right or left and the pressure goes shooting up as the pump works its hardest

Im assuming that you mean power steering fluid is leaking... top off the fluid, replace cap, and have a freind turn the steering wheel back and forth while you check the hoses and lines for leaking fluid.

Have Kia Sedona 2003 Automatic with a leak that is either steering fluid or transmisson fluid, are these fluids the same colour?

In most cases Automatic Fluid (ATF) is used as hydraulic fluid for power steering systems, so, yes, they are the same fluid. To identify the origin of your leak, place some sheets of news paper under the front of the car and see where the oil drops collect. Look above that and identify whether it is nearer the transmission or the power steering system. You may also be able to see the origin of the leak from beneath the car with the front raised on ramps (not jacks).

Some modern cars have an electrically driven pump to supply high pressure oil to operate the power steering. However, most cars have an oil pump for the steering which is turned by a belt from the crankshaft pulley. If the belt is loose or slipping, heavy steering will be the result, especially noticable at low speeds. Check belt for tightness, and check oil level is not low, possibly due to a leak?

I have a 2002 KIA Sedona that has an issue with it's steering. When making turns, the steering wheel seems to hit 'rough' spots as if I were turning a polished wheel against a smooth surface where the...

This sounds like textbook steering rack failure. If the internal seals wear out the rack will leak fluid internally, causing the exact symptoms you're describing. These can be rebuilt, but it's hardly worth the effort. It's less headache and only slightly more expensive to replace it.

I had the same thing (hard to turn, especially in cold temps, wouldn't return to straight.....). Since the power steering fluid was full, I decided it had to be "gunk" in the fluid, so I took my '03 Kia Sedona in to have the power steering fluid flushed & filled (over $100 I think!).

No better. So I took it to another mechanic and he said that the "U-Bolt" had frozen up. He changed it (part was $117 and labor was 2 hours, for a total cost of $350ish) and it's good as new now!
