The coolant is orange in color which is totally man made coolant. If totally drained and flushed you can use the old conventional green coolant instead. It does last longer than the oroange junk us men make. Man made cooland evaporates as you may know whereas the old school juice does not

What kind of antifreeze does a GMC Jimmy 1995 use?

There should be a label on the coolant cap that tells you. If not there are two types that fit you make (chevy). Green (ethyl-glycol), or GM's
Dex-cool. In your case I believe the green dyed, ethyl-glycol is for you as GM's change over year is 1997.

I see a red flag here. If they don't look the same, they may have different gear ratios. This is critical in a 4 wheel drive. Front and rear gears have to match

1997 jimmy started missing can this be a sencor

You need to start with basics first,
remove plug wires one at a time while engine is running to see if it makes a difference in RPMs.
After you locate which cylinder is not working,Check the wire for spark coming out,Check the plug,Check the cap and rotor if you have one,or coil pack.

I topped up my coolant tank with premixed Prestone (green).

Wayne, GM started using Dex-Cool coolant in '96 (u call it red, I call it orange), @that time that was all u could (or should) have used in GM vehicles, my manual even says 'do not mix dex-cool with any other type antifreeze.' But since then, Prestone has come out w/ a formulation for ALL vehicles, and I checked their website, and it states that this new formulation is compatible with all others, regardless of color. So u are ok with topping off w/ the new stuff. Going back to my early school days , I believe orange(red) and green=brown? So, it may not look nice, but your brown coolant is ok. Curt
