Question about 1998 Nissan Maxima

1 Answer

In the summertime only. not in the winter, the car will crank up fine and ill pull into a place, cut the car off and go in and come out and try to crank the car and it wont turn over or say anything. jumping the car off or taping on the starter or anything else wont work. ill sit there an hour and it will crank with no problems. it does this every now and then. the advanced auto place says it has an egr malfunction, knock sensor, and evap purge flow. I have a 98 nissan maxima.

Why do overhead wires hang with a slight sag in the summertime but tightly in the wintertime?

Wires lengthen with higher temperatures. In the summer the longer wires sag, while in the winter the shorter wires are more taut.

This is the reason railroad tracks are laid out with gaps between them to allow them to expand in the heat.

When this happens, look around the dash area for a light that says SECURITY. If you see this light, then it means you are having PASSLOCK security issues. This will cause the car to not start. This link has tons of info and DO IT YOURSELF solutions to passlock problems.

I would try to have the transmission flushed and filled if not done within the last 30,000 mi. If this doesn't improve the condition for about $100 or so, then I would have it rebuilt or replaced.

Hyundai did a recall dealing with this specific problem. You can find it either by Google-ing "Hyundai Santa Fe recall" or calling your dealership.

The warmer the engine gets, the harder the truck is to shift!

replace the fluid in clutch resaviour ALL of it
ILL bet the fluid is dark and not clear you got moisture in the fluid

water expands much more than hydraulic fluid to hot temps
making less "room" for piston travel in clutch slave
