The security system (VATS/PassKey) is having problems, those are the first symptoms. You run the risk to find yourself stuck somewhere anytime as happened to me. You can find a great write-up here: http://newrockies.ca , it was the only thing that saved my Park Avenue.

Security light blinking and car will not try and crank

The security picture/icon is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterprets this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle. This link explains it pretty well.

I have a 2001 chevy malibu. The security light was on constant, not blinking. I tried the relearn procedure 10 minutes on 5 seconds off. The security light stayed on. Replaced the ignition lock cylinder....

You are correct, the vehicle is not getting fuel. The security system shuts off the fuel injectors. Check out this link, there is good info there for ya. http://www.diy-gm-security.com/

A red light blinks on the windshield on the center of the dashboard on my Hyundai Sonata. Why does it blink? How do you turn it off?

It's part of the security system -- it let's you (and any potential thief) know that the system is armed. You can turn it off by not locking the car up when you leave, but that's not a very good idea. Other than that, maybe you could just cover it up.

Saturn L300 2002-security light blinks, running lights blink,

Several GM products, including the Chevrolet Impala and Malibu, the Oldsmobile Alero, the Pontiac Grand Prix, and Saturn Ion, have issues with the Security light coming on. This is many times an indication of a failing Body Control Module (BCM). Initially, the Security light will come on then go off, progressing to a constant on light, before the car will refuse to start. Other symptoms may include erratic action of electronics, a clicking sound coming from the glove box, and the air conditioning failing to blow cold air. I recommend a shop that specializes in the electronic systems of vehicles to diagnosis and make the necessary repairs. They should keep the car until they replicate the symptoms described. A new BCM from GM should cost about $230; plan on another $200 for them to diagnose the problem, replace the unit, and program the new unit. The dealers quote between $700 and $1,100 for the same repair. My experience and the experiences I have read on the internet, indicate the new BCM should last only about a year.

We replaced the car's battery and now the dash board lights blink

Under the dash on drivers side is the black box for the security system. If you look on the box there is a little red button. Push the button for a couple of secounds and it will click and stop your marker lights and dash lights from flashing. It is a stock anti theft part of the security system. Hope this helps.
