The best thing to do is take it back to the dealer, or a reputable transmission shop. Transmissions are highly technical and the average backyard mechanic can not work on them. It could be a servo or clutchpack inside the transmission, or an electrical problem, since the transmission is computer controlled.

Sounds like the TPS(Throttle position sensor) has gone bad. Before you spend $1,500+ on a new transmission change this for around $30.00.

Its not changing gears right

There haven't been modulator valves in transmissions since they started putting computers in cars but it was a good guess. It could be one of three things that I can think of. 1) It may be a loose wire on one of the computer sensors in or on the transmission, 2) one of these could be a loose or defective, 3) And I hope I'm wrong on this one. There may be a bad internal seal which won't allow the internal pump to build enough pressure to keep it in gear. If this the problem, get rid of it before it gets worse, get it fixed before you drive it much more or drive it as little as possible as every time it shifts in and out it damages the internal clutch packs and low gear band. This happened to my 2001 Windstar. At the point that I traded it in, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears would shift alright but it wouldn't stay in 4th, (overdrive). It would shift in and out of 4th at random. Good luck. Jeff M.

Have no gears untill engine runs awhile at start up after awhile i can drive but the trans shifts hard between 1st and 2nd and alittle less hard between 2nd and 3rd whats wrong with trans 200000 on...

The filter and transmission fluid needs to be changed........The transmission filter is dirty and causing a flow restriction under load.....Hope this helps.

Will a transmission #ax4s from 1988 ford windstar fit a 200 windstar with transmission # ax4s

I dont think that will work ....1988 was aod and aode trans

The AXOD-E was renamed AX4S in 1993. In addition to the name change, improvements in the lubrication of the gearset and capacity upgrades were made. A centrifugal piston assembly was implemented in the intermediate clutch position to improve 1st-2nd and 2nd-1st shift quality and an increase in the clutch's durability was made on some models. High energy friction materials were also introduced. A new twin piston torque converter clutch (TCC) was introduced with the AX4S and the AX4N on some models. The transaxle pan on this model will sometimes read "AXOD Metric" since it's based on the AXOD transaxle. The data plate code for this transmission is "L."
The Ford AX4S automatic transmission is a four-speed electronic overdrive transmission used in 1995 to 2000 Ford Windstar minivan. The transmission is also used in 1991 to 2003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable, and 1993 to 1995 Ford Taurus SHO models. The AX4S is a second-generation version of the AXOD and AXOD-E transmissions used in 1986 to 1991 Ford Taurus.

Manual transmission will not shift into any gear, even when the clutch is completely depressed. It's a hard shift to begin with and now when i have to come to a stop and say move it out of 4th gear and try...

The problem sounds like the clutch. If you put it in 1st., then start it up, does it try to move with you foot on the clutch? Does the clutch pedal feel different than normal.

Transmission problems

if it was me I would check the sensors on the transmission first and if those are ok I hate to tell you it could be your torque converter
