SOURCE: 2001 SATURN SL1 BELT

You'll need a 14mm socket wrench.

Locate the belt tensioner pulley. It's the one closest to the alternator and the only one that comes in contact with the back surface of the belt.

Fit the socket on to the bolt on the pulley.
Try to turn it clockwise.
This should swing the pulley down and loosen the belt,
Slide the belt off one of the other pulleys.
When it's clear, release the tensioner, remove the belt.

Same deal in reverse to replace the belt.

Here's a diagram

Hope this helps

Add some ATF in the dipstick behind the battery, below the master brake cylinder. The dipstick is weird and hard to find. It has a red flip cap instead of a pull ring. I know this is too late to help the poster, but others are looking for this. (Like myself.) Question? kurt1431 at comcast dot net.

How much should it cost to fix/replace a brake line in a 2001 Saturn SL1? It's leaking towards the back middle of the car between the 2 rear wheels.

The replacement is not a difficult job, but will require that the complete brake system be flushed. Depending on if you take it to a dealer or independent repair shop, it may cost anywhere between $200.00 to $600.00 US dollars. Price my vary based on many other factors.

1995 Saturn SL1 Manual Transmission

Sounds like the friction surface of the clutch disc is slipping. You would have to install a new clutch (clutch disc, pressure plate, and clutch release bearing), and have the flywheel surface cut and polished back to perfect smooth by a shop.
Manual transmission gears don't slip like automatics. And lack of fluid in the transaxle or the hydraulic clutch system won't cause this either.

My ac is not blowing cold in 2001 saturn sl1. I had the cooling fan replaced and it blew cold for 1 day. Then I bought a recharge kit and the pressure was to high for me to add freon. I took it to the shop...

If you can turn the compresser with your hand freely ? then you can just replace the clutch...if not, the whole compressor needs to be replaced..

Disable my security it iprevening me form startin the car

This is a pretty common problem on GM cars. Expensive to fix, and even harder to diagnose. Read this info found on this link. It will help you understand the problem and offers some good solutions to beat this yourself. Bypassing this terrible system is a lot better than trying to have it fixed. Instead of paying the dealer mechanic to stumble thru the system and charge you for unwanted items, do this yourself.

I have a crack engine. Need to put in another engine. Will a 2001 engine fit into a 1998 saturn sl1

No, you need a 96 through 98 engine, make sure the one you get is the same as yours, that is if you have an SL1 your donor car must be an SL1, SW1 or SC1 and if you have an SL2 then your donor car must be an SL2, an SW2, or an SC2. You can buy rebuilt engines for about 2000 with core exchange
might make more sense if you intend to keep it a while and if a manual then do the clutch while it is out.

Call an auto recycler and find another SOHC Saturn engine with much less mileage. Probably anything up to 95 will swap in. Too many problems to fix that one, simpler to put in a replacement. If it is a manual, do the clutch too.

Go to your local autozone or advanced auto and they can check it for free. Ask for the code and then look it up on google for ways to fix what it is.

Does a saturn sl1 2001 have a single or double transmission?

An SL1 has a single overhead camshaft, SOHC, engine. It has but one transmission. If it has a clutch pedal next to the brake pedal, it is a manual shift/transmission, if there is only a brake pedal, then it is an automatic transmission.

Depends on what is wrong. It may be a simple linkage problem, if thats the case, yes, if it is a tranny, or rebuild, then you may need to re-evaluate! Good Luck on your fix...or decision.
