Question about 1994 Mazda 929
It could be a lot of things. First, check the fluid level to make sure it's full. Low fluid can cause it.
Second, when is the last time you changed the fluid? It usually shoul be done around the 60,000 or 70,000 mile mark. there could be a build up of sludge and filings that are rstricting passages. If it hasn't been done then I would get it flushed when the fluid and filter are changed.
Third, it could be wearing out. It has clutches inside and they wear every time it shifts. The only thing you can try, short of a rebuild is an additive to the fluid, like Lucas to try and extend the life of the transmission, but that is only a temporary cure. It will have to be replaced or rebuilt.
Fourth, it could be something mechanical, but you'll probably have to take it to a shop to get an accurate diagnosis of that.
Hope this helps.
