Question about 1996 Lincoln Town Car

1 Answer

I have a 19996 lincoln towncar, which deaccelerates (driving at 75mph, then drops to 55mph, while I'm pressing on the gas). It also, hesitates at startup. How do I fix this issue? I have done the following things; tuned it up; new plugs and wires; replaced 2 front o2 sensors; changed the oil and pcv valve; replaced the fuel pump; replaced the air filter; replaced the fuel filter. What is next?

My 1993 lincoln towncar seems to lose power sometimes while driving it has this hesitation for a few seconds then it seems to smooth out and drive normal until it decide to do it again.

Check you're fuel injectors, if so, use fuel injector cleaner every other fill up, if the problem worsens, check you're catalic converter for clogs.

Dont stick the pump nozzle all the way in. Just put it half way and it wont deactivate till you fill up. Good luck

Car hesitates off the line, shifts terribly.

With the symptoms you have the first thing I would check is to see if the Mass air flow sensor is dirty.

My 1990 towncar hesitates at third gear going 38 mph it first revs then switches into the gear..also it doesnt go into passing gear when i pass a car it wont shift down..

your tranny is going out. VERY common with the 8 cylinders. Have seen it many many times. You should still be able to drive it for a year or so before it goes completely.
When it revs up just let off the gas til the rpm's go down, and then slowly give gas again.
