Question about 1996 Chevrolet Tahoe

My husband broke the gear shifter off of the steering column on our 96 Chevy Tahoe how can we fix it or replace it. Nothing else is broke off the steering column except the shifter. We can drive it by using our fingers to shift gears.

Get a new lever punch out the roll pin that holds it in.replace lever and reinstall roll pin

Install steering column,on 99ford ranger video.,,shifter broke. or pics


instead of fixing the broken column go to local salvage yard and replace the entire column it should take you about 2 hours to replace it not even that. it is too much of a hassle to fix a broken part in the column itself and the repair will not always help out in the long run.

How can i fix broken shifter on 2003 ford super Duty , automatic ? Seems like a pin broke and i cant put it into gear or out .


hey look under neath where ur driver footpedals are. chances are that the rubber grommet on the end of ur cable came off or broke.. look up into the column area an look for the black cable goin to a pivot point on shifter arm. reconnect. but will prob need new cable cause if end is no good will fall of again. move shifter back an forth to help u locate area of cable

The gear shifter broke off my 02 Mountaineer, the metal part that attaches the shifter lever to the steering column broke.


Shift lever collar is what is broke on our 2002 Mountaineer. It isn't difficult to replace, just time consuming. Look up part number 905-104 at Oreilly's

1998 chevy lumina, shifter on steering column,won't shift


Either the pin that connects rod to tranny is broken off, or there is internal transmission problems.

check your linkage on transmission sounds like something came loose hope this helps

Ford Aerostar shifter on the column


check under the dash where shift linkage connects to shift cable will be two #30 torx bolts which have probably worked loose you do not have to remove wheel easy fix
