Question about 1998 Jeep Wrangler
You should have looked for a vacuume leak to start with The code is for a lean condition, not bad O2 sensor. Look for a vacuume leaks at the PVC hose elbows and at the EVAP hoses and elbows. I would check/change the MAF sensor, if the condition persists after you reset the computer codes then it is defineatly a leak somewhere, and you need to chase it down.

I would try a new fuel filter if its due for one anyway. my car was setting that code but ran fine. i changed fuel filter and that took care of it. of course there is other stuff like fuel pressure or vacuum leaks or plugged injectors that can cause that code. but a fuel filter if one is due anyway is a good place to start.

Clean the mass air flow sensor with brake cleaner spray. Throw away the K & N filter if you have one installed. Both are common causes that set a P0171

This is probably referring to problems with your bank 1 oxygen sensor. Without the vehicle make, model and year I can't tell you where it is located. However, if you replace your front oxygen sensor that should clear up the problem. Also, if you do replace it, I always run some fuel injector cleaner through a full tank of gas at the same time. Hope this helps!

I would check the O2 sensor, and if it checks bad, replace it, and clear the trouble codes. If the light comes back on, you may need to check further. .
